That would be an interesting choice.

I imagine he'd have to play it a little different from Malcolm Tucker. Otherwise, there'd be a lot of complaints. XD

He is a candidate given over here in Britain but there are others too. Looking forward to the announcement!

. I doubt it will be him. That and he has already being in Torchwood and Doctor Who already as other characters. He is not going to be the Doctor.

Chiwetel Ejiofor, please.

Apparently there are a few bratty fans threatening not to watch the show if this guy is cast. I imagine those fans are high school girls angry over the fact that the next doctor probably won't be their new crush. I, however, think he has the look. It might be good to have an older doctor as opposed to the younger ones we've had.

#8 Posted by mrdecepticonleader (18062 posts) - - Show Bio

Whoever it is I just hope they don't make him into a she.

#9 Posted by buttersdaman000 (9728 posts) - - Show Bio

@mrdecepticonleader:

Martha and the 6th Doctor(?) both played smaller roles before being cast into larger ones. So, if he isn't cast I doubt it would be because of that

But he had a main role in Torchwood it wasn't just a brief cameo.

Ahh I didnt know that. I've only seen the first season or so of Torchwood. But yeah, that could be an issue

Yeah he has a pretty substantial role in Children of Earth. Torchwood is well worth watching by the way :)

Female doctoooooooor. The femslash between her and whoever her companion is will set the internet ablaze and I can bask in the sapphic calamity.

Anyone else seriously doubt that this is the last regeneration? I know fans have been thinking this was going to be the last Doctor but come on folks, do you honestly think when 12 is done they're just gonna stop?

#19 Posted by buttersdaman000 (9728 posts) - - Show Bio

Welp, its Peter Capaldi

Peter Capaldi was just confirmed as Twelve.

@joshmightbe:

He has infinite regeneration now I think....or at least hundreds

#23 Posted by joshmightbe (24885 posts) - - Show Bio

@mercy_: There was a rumor though I was absolutely sure was not true was that it might have been the Rock, if that had been true then I could believe 12 was the last, but that would have been a glorious train wreck.

Well seems Peter Capaldi will be my first doctor

#26 Posted by Mercy_ (92698 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: He will inevitably end up as your favorite, no matter how good other runs may be.

Jesus Christ!! I just checked Peter Capaldi's imdb page......this goes all the way to the top.....

#28 Posted by guttridgeb (4832 posts) - - Show Bio

Seems like pretty good choice, though I still think Idris Elba should have got it.

#29 Posted by joshmightbe (24885 posts) - - Show Bio

@mercy_: I imagine his enemies would have an entirely different reaction to a giant Samoan doctor than they do with the small British guys.

#30 Posted by Omega Ray Jay (7818 posts) - - Show Bio

Not a bad choice, but I would have preferred someone else who hadn't already been in the show.

#31 Edited by joshmightbe (24885 posts) - - Show Bio

@omega_ray_jay: Colin Baker played a Who villain before becoming the 6th Doctor so its not unprecedented

#32 Posted by Omega Ray Jay (7818 posts) - - Show Bio

@joshmightbe: I know, and Freema Agyeman was in Doomsday before taking on the role of Marth Jones, It doesn't mean I like the idea regardless of how many times it has occurred.

@mercy_: well I've never really watched a full episode. I've seen bits here and there and know who some of the doctors are but I figure its a perfect time to start with a new doctor :)

But why do you say he'll be my favorite? Is that usually the case?

#35 Edited by Mercy_ (92698 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: I've found that the overwhelming majority favor the Doctor (and usually companion) that they first started watching with.

For example, I've watched the runs of Nine, Ten and Eleven (except for the most recent season), but the first run I watched was Eleven's and he's my favorite Doctor.

@joshmightbe: and that right there is one of the things that I really like - how physically not imposing he is.

@mercy_: I know it would be terrible but I'd watch the hell out of it, itd be a hilarious disaster

... huh.

Possibly. Though Eccleston was my first Doctor and David Tennant became my favorite.

... so... yeah.

For the record, I do agree with you. Right before the announcement, for some unknown reason, I felt like making a joke by saying "What if they cast that guy from Children of Earth?"

And then they cast that guy from Children of Earth.

I just hope that the show will become darker and more serious. Matt Smith was okay, but I missed the darker tones.

PS: Children of Earth is awesome.

I like it. He's got an interesting look to him that I like. I've never seen him in anything, besides clips of him in The Thick of It (in which he looks awesome), but I'm excited to see how he is.

Points for that being what you've seen him in. Such a good movie and an even better show.

He would've been so awesome.

Looking at he what he said in an interview on the reveal show last night. It seemed he was open to the idea.

That is what I thought I just thought they would not cast him since Dr Who and Torchwood are in the same universe. And he had a substantial part in Children of Earth. That is really the thing that bugs me. I have nothing against him being the doctor. I think picking an older doctor this time around is a good option since it changes things alot. But was surprised they picked him.

And it is yeah :)
