Nighthawk and Doc Strange pack their bags for Nevada…to perform an exorcism! Kyle suspects that his oldest friend, Patricia ‘Trish’ Starr, is possessed by demons. Enter Shazana and her monstrous hordes, here to claim our dimension!

Dr. Strange and Kyle Richmond go out west to find Trish Starr, Kyle's ex-girlfriend whose arm was blown off by a bomb set by her uncle, Egghead. She recently moved to a collectivist ranch to find herself. She starting researching mysticism, and one day had a magical accident, after which she started acting clearly differently. Then she walked off and never came back.

They look around and find a magical barrier in the desert. Dr. Strange sends his astral form inside to investigate. He finds her under guard by some demons. He defeats them and brings her back.

They are happily reunited until Strange uses the Eye of Agamotto to scan her, and finds out that she is possessed by Shazanna, a minor mystic Strange fought long ago. She summons some knights to help her, and they threaten to kill Trish unless Strange and Kyle surrender.

They do, and Shazanna imprisons them in a magical cage that would drain their life force if they break it. She also enslaves the commune. However, Strange contacts Clea, who brings the other Defenders to the rescue.

Clea uses her magic to help Strange and Kyle escape their magical prison. The other Defenders defeat Shazanna's knights, and Strange banishes her back to her home dimension.

Kyle and Trish finally get to share some alone time, off panel.

This is the last issue written by Steve Gerber, whose run was infamous for its unusual nature. The letters page also explains (since it is not explained on-panel) that Strange's problems with his magic, and some of the other Defenders' temporary personality changes, were due to the Headmen's experiments on them.
