Tania Belinskaya is the Red Guardian! After performing a successful brain transplant on Norriss, Strange ensures that the Russian super woman can stay in America. Valkyrie encounters a moral dilemma in prison, while Kyle Richmond finds himself in hot water once again! What does Plantman want with Nighthawk? The Defenders can have their teammate back…to the tune of five million dollars!

Kyle once again runs through the angst of his youth, from rebellious but lonely rich kid to drunken driver to flunky to the Grandmaster. That led to his membership in the Defenders, the attempted assassination on his girlfriend Trish Starr, and the revelation that his business assistant, Pennysworth, was secretly funding the racist organization, the Sons of the Serpent.

He finally wakes up to find that the Red Guardian (in her secret identity as a neurosurgeon) has surgically replaced his brain back in his body. They are immediately attacked by thugs, who the Red Guardian defeats. Meanwhile, Dr. Strange magically convinces her Soviet minders that she can stay in the US a little longer.

Valkyrie, who defeated Chondu last issue, was arrested for destroying a restaurant in the process. She is sent to jail without anyone knowing where she is.

Jack Norriss, back at the rooftop where Val left her injured horse, Aragorn, protects him from a violent building supervisor, and then protects the supervisor from the Hulk. The Hulk brings Jack and Aragorn to a vet.

Strange and Red Guardian talk about life in the US, such as an article in the paper about a man who uses "celestial mind control" to literally bring out the clown in everyone, creating a Bozo army. Strange secretly knows that this man is really Nebulon.

Three classic bumbling criminals check out the CMC center, hoping to have their bumbling nature exorcised so they are more efficient. Porcupine and Eel are interested by Nebulon's promises and the dancing Bozos, but Plant-man leaves. He decides to go about his own plan.

In jail, some prisoners try to give Val a hard time, but she uses her strength to keep them at bay. However, something odd is keeping her mind hazy and unable to focus on getting help.

Strange hears about a disturbance at Kyle's hospital, and goes to investigate. Red Guardian follows him to learn more about him, since she previously thought he was just a doctor.

Strange, Kyle, and Red Guardian are all caught by Plant-man, who puts them in a giant plant pod and demands a ransom for Kyle's release.
