The Defenders take on their most surprising foes yet…the NEW MUTANTS!?
The Defenders battle the New Mutants, with the Defenders going all-out until Moondragon stops them. She realizes that they are captives, and their minds are just being manipulated by the Secret Empire. Professor Power is trying to train them to really kill the New Mutants, but they are all resisting.
Meanwhile Power consults with the rest of his leadership on his plan to send emotionally-manipulative signals across the whole world via satellite, plunging the Earth into a nuclear war that only the Secret Empire will survive.
SHIELD, meanwhile, is looking for the Defenders, based on the site of their crashed quinjet, and Candy Southern and Dolly Donahue worry about their friends.
Seraph is revealed to be a Soviet spy within the Secret Empire, and releases Cloud from her cell. The Defenders manage to break free of their controlling machine at the same time. They team up together and force Power to flee, but his satellite is still launched. Moondragon and Valkyrie leap onto its outside shell as it flies into the air.
