Bane's going to have more people to bump heads with. Maybe.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES may already started shooting last week, but that doesn’t mean the casting announcements can’t continue. Variety has got the names of three last minute additions to the cast: Matthew Modine, Tom Conti and Joey King. Aside from Modine’s character being called “Nixon,” no other details about these roles have been revealed yet. Considering that we’ve basically got a vast, blank canvas before us, I’m going to splash some wild, brazen and unlikely casting speculations out like so much paint in a Jackson Pollock piece…

== TEASER ==
Red boas totally fit into this vision of Gotham City.

Matthew Modine will play the Creeper. Why’s that? Well, his most famous role was as “Joker” in FULL METAL JACKET and Jack Ryder’s a sort-of Joker. He’s called Nixon, but there’s nobody named “Nixon” in the Bat Mythos. Thus, I conclude that he’ll start the movie pulling off a bank heist in a Richard Nixon mask in much the same fashion that the Joker knocked the mob bank up in that generic clown mask.

Joey King is obviously going to be Baby Doll. How many other tween girls are there in the rogue’s gallery?

It’s more of a reach, but I’m pegging Tom Conti as the Ventriloquist. Nothing in the character actor’s long career relates to that, but a quick Google search reveals that his daughter’s a professional Ventriloquist, and that’s all the connection we really need.

My dream of a third BATMAN movie featuring an entire gang of super villains may yet come true. Or maybe they’ll all just be regular, human characters, like how Anthony Michael Hall just ended up playing a journalist in THE DARK KNIGHT. What too-crazy speculations do you maniacs have?

Is it really like Nolan to fill his movies full of villains ala Spider-man 3? I'm not sure

#2 Posted by Baron_Emo (3609 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm down with the Creeper.

That sounded sexier than I meant it. >.>

Creeper? Interesting choice.

I would love to see Creeper in the movie

Nolan is pulling all the stops!

#6 Posted by CrimsonAvenger (1288 posts) - - Show Bio

If these are villains this movie is going to have to run over three hours long so all the characters get enough screen time.

#7 Posted by primepower53 (6064 posts) - - Show Bio

I'd looove to see Creeper!

`You have perfect thinking

#11 Posted by JonesDeini (3858 posts) - - Show Bio

LMAO Tom none if this is remotely possible, man.

#12 Posted by goldenkey (3033 posts) - - Show Bio

I think some side villains would be just PERFECT.  It would make a lot of people happy and pissed off at the same time.  A showing of Scarface and the Ventriloquist would be amazing.  Some what of a sene ala scarecrow in Dark Knight only using a baddy that hasen't had a major role in any of the other movies.  Opening the film by taking on one of these charaters.  Firefly, Scarface, etc.  Just perfect.  OH, and my guess, Modine would actually make a very very good Riddler.  No way he's in it, but perfect.

Creeper is not a villain though

I'm a bit worried this may be getting a little to big of a cast rto be honest, but I still trust Nolan knows what he's doing. :)

Its possible that the storyline may be that Batman has influenced ordinary people as well such as catwoman and creeper, but of course batman will go at it alone
#17 Posted by Crimson Eagle (1918 posts) - - Show Bio

I guess they'll appear at the end of the film or at the beginning like Tom stated.

#18 Posted by Last_Guardian (28230 posts) - - Show Bio

Creeper is would be cool to see him

#19 Posted by ArtisticNeedham (2525 posts) - - Show Bio

Saddly, ???, they are probably like the new DA replacing Dent, a lawyer or a cop, and a little girl (maybe the daughter of the new DA).

#20 Posted by nobodythere (88 posts) - - Show Bio

Hope the thing doesn't get bogged down with villain cameo appearances and they loose sight of the story. With this being billed as the last of the Nolan Batman films I'm hoping for a bang not convoluted mess. Course, knowing Nolan's track record it will be awesome no matter how much of a mess it is.

#21 Posted by DarkShadows (752 posts) - - Show Bio

Creeper is awesome! But I find the cast a big too big, however, this is Nolan and I think he knows what he is doing.

#22 Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus (6958 posts) - - Show Bio

Wow, this could turn into one interesting flick!

#23 Posted by Jordanstine (943 posts) - - Show Bio

Or overwhelming disaster.

I'm in the camp where the less villains, the better.

I do not want The Dark Knight to end up as convoluted as Spider-Man III or even the 90's "Batman & Robin" with too many villains.

Hmm...reallly hard to say.  I can see your reasoning for Modine, he has a bit of a lanky build and noticeable face, but I don't know if they'd go with Creeper.  If they do, that would be pretty dang cool.

Ventriloquist?   ( I don't care which version either)

For the love of God--Nooooooo......

I have a feeling that Joey King is going to be one of three characters. She is either going to be Harley Quinn(Which I am hoping for), Barbara Gordon, or a young Talia Al Ghul. I think since they aren't featuring the Joker in this it would make since for Harley Quinn to be young maybe not this young but young all the same. I think she would make an interesting take on Harley Quinn as a young girl rather than an adult.

Just so you know I'm saying this cause I just wan't Harley in this movie lol.

@StarKiller809: uh...Joker Blogs finale? I think that's the closest you'll get.
#27 Posted by Fantasgasmic (1092 posts) - - Show Bio

Yeah, i can't help but think you're totally wrong, Tom. There is no way in hell the Creeper is showing up in this movie. I'm guessing Nixon is another Cop on the Bat Task Force with John Blake.

I'd be more inclined to say the kid is playing a young Barbara Gordon, abandoned by her parents and gone to live with her Uncle Jim (implying that Barb and Jim Jr. either leave Gordon between movies or in the first act). And I have no idea who Tom Conti will portray.

Those guys look scary this will be good

Creeper is also not Gotham per se, it would be like if Count Vertigo or Mirror Master showed up

Not necessarily.   A lot of people who watched the Batman cartoon will be familiar with the origin story where the Creeper was a Gotham reporter dosed with Joker Venom and tossed into the same chemical vat that Joker fell in.   While it's not the original origin story, it was definitely a well written and memorable introduction for the character.

@Golden Cod: Well being a Wonder Woman fan I remember that at one point they were both based out of Boston (which is where he usually is)   So I associate him with WW more than anything else.
#32 Posted by Sobe Cin (602 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm thinking Matthew Modine will be a new District Attourney replacing Dawes and Harvy Dent.

Tom Conti almost looks like he could be a Penguin-esque like character.

And the little girl- probably a young Talia? Appearantly I'm not the only one with that thought.

#33 Posted by shawn87 (2797 posts) - - Show Bio

That would be awesome if Tom Conti was the Ventriloquist. I can picture him playing the role. I hope they dont make that little girl anything more than just some little kid in peril that Batman rescues.

Christopher Nolan had a lot of popular actors in the Dark Knight. These newly casted actors could play similar roles such as William Fichtner and Michael Jai White had in the last film. Maybe their minor supporting roles rather than larger roles. Who knows
#34 Posted by The Impersonator (6827 posts) - - Show Bio

NANI? (WHAT?) Are you serious? This movie should just feature 2 villains. We don't need more than 2 or 1 for that matter.

#35 Posted by The Mighty Monarch (3658 posts) - - Show Bio

Tom, you win for mentioning Baby Doll. I know she was fairly weak as an actual villain, but to me there was always something just so fascinating about just how completely and truly insane she was. She was that brand of more realistic insanity imo, and I appreciated that quite a lot. I'd love to see someone bring her back in the comics if they didn't already do that and kill her off or something.

#36 Posted by Forceman4077 (3 posts) - - Show Bio

Yet still no Riddler wtf man!

#37 Posted by Battlepig (285 posts) - - Show Bio

I hope there won't be too many villains. This is something quite a few superhero-movies have done wrong: There are too many bad guys in the sequel. Most notable here is probably Spidey III, where there just wasn't enough time to cram in all the bad guys including back story plus acts of villainy to make their point and tell an interesting story involving the main hero and his support characters. And as we saw in The Dark Knight, they buggered up having even two villains in the movie, seeing as Two-Face got exactly nothing to do in the end other than looking awful for a minute or two. But then again, the Joker did steal the show, but that's not the point.

Point is, I'd rather see a really small cadre of villains, preferably only one, and have that guy be as badass as possible and have him make an impact.

#38 Posted by Eyz (3184 posts) - - Show Bio

Probably secondary characters, like Commissioner Loeb in the previous flicks.

#39 Posted by GothamRed (2615 posts) - - Show Bio

so instead of 2.5, maybe 3 villains, we'll have more than any other comic book movie ever, I know these are theories, but if they end up true, I think even Nolan will be in trouble

#40 Posted by Nighthound (16 posts) - - Show Bio

Joey king as a young barbara gordon?????

#41 Posted by Out_of_Space (778 posts) - - Show Bio

This movie is gonna be really good.
#42 Posted by Sekele (298 posts) - - Show Bio

T be honest, I'd be perfectly happy if the whole film was just Batman against Bane

#43 Posted by Captain_Shakespeare (32 posts) - - Show Bio

...Or they'll just be reports/criminals other citizens. Creeper is not a villain and i'd rather them not do that. A cameo would be cool a la Zsasz in Btman Begins though

#44 Posted by Gambit1024 (10217 posts) - - Show Bio

Ventrilloquist? I'm in.

#46 Posted by Chibi-Iroh (390 posts) - - Show Bio

We have only been getting secondary characters after the announcement of Bane and Catwoman I highly believe that they are the only two villians as much as I would have loved for Hugo Strange and Harley Quinn to have been in the mix.

#47 Posted by Billy Batson (59328 posts) - - Show Bio

Ventriloquist would be nice...

The third movie is always the hardest.
X-Men 3= too crowded. Spider-man 3= too crowded. Superman 3= too stupid...
Original Batman 3= great actors... too crowded.
In most cases the second movie was the best, then the third killed the series.
Original Batman and Superman went one movie too far each!
