If you've been trying your best to avoid any The Dark Knight Rises spoilers, then it may be in your best interest to stop reading now. The film's shooting was recently relocated to New York City for some action scenes and, as you probably expected, New York Daily News and Just Jared reporters (as well as a few bystanders) were there not only to film the action, but to get a close up shot of both Christian Bale in full Batman attire and actor Tom Hardy as Bane.

This isn't the first time we've seen the both of these actors in full costume; but it might be the first time we see their costumes this clearly. One thing's for sure, the photos are definitely high in quality and serve to reinforce a few things we already suspected. First, Batman's cowl still looks a little bit...well...funny. It's no surprise, either, that Bane and Batman would be at each other's throats and the image above is proof.

With so many extras on the set in downtown Manhattan's financial district, we have to wonder whether or not Christopher Nolan rounded up some Occupy Wall Street protestors to go head to head against GCPD. We kid. In all seriousness, though, these are some pretty awesome images and spy footage. What do you think? Is this getting you excited for the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises film? I like bane and like the new mask for the movie. The comic mask wouldn't cross over well for me.

It would look dumb and end up looking like a luchador if he used his comic mask.

Bane's Comic mask wouldn't look ridiculous if it was worn at night, in the dark, just how Batman is supposed to be. It would fit in and look just fine. Seeing Batman out in public during daylight is weird for me here. He's the Dark Knight, not the Gray Day. I can't remember the last time Batman made a habit to go for an afternoon stroll in downtown Gotham in the comic books. Especially with him being hunted following TDK. How does Batman's cowl look funny. It looks like a Batman ass Batman cowl. If you meant Bane's cowl thing then sure, but everything about the Batsuit in the Nolan movies has been top notch.

We all know that if circumstances arose Batman would fight in the daylight just as he would in the night. Do you honestly think that if Bane or the Joker was destroying Gotham in broad daylight that he would just sit back and let it go on and go after them once the sun goes down?

Then he obviously has to answer the call, but that really kind of goes against what they have established for movie-Bats so far. He's not a hero, he's wanted by the police, and is a shadowy mystery that strikes from the shadows and does what the police can't. A riot in downtown Gotham is more along the lines of right up the GOtham PD's alley than a twisted homicidal maniac who has 2 boats loaded with explosives in GOtham Harbor at night. Just saying, interesting choice, it goes against what they've done so far in the first 2 movies imo.

Judging by this it's a riot in the streets of Gotham in the daylight. That's something that the GCPD can handle. Batman is there to replace the police or do their job, he goes and takes down criminals with methods and in places that the law can't go. Downtown Gotham in broad daylight isn't one of those situations. Especially when he is wanted by the Gotham PD.

Also on the subject of Banes mask people are just thinking about wanting to stay close to the comic book, but they aren't thinking about what works for movies. If Nolan had used Bane's original mask then he would be eliminating one of an actors most essential tools....the face but more importantly the eyes. We know the pain of Banes story and we also know that a persons pain and life can all be seen through their eyes with one look. I'm glad that Nolan decided to redesign Bane's mask.

Bane still lacks any kind of intimidation whatsoever. I think it's that baggy shirt they slapped on him. Bane needs to be showing off his guns! It doesn't help that Tom Hardy looks vastly shorter than Christian Bale, but then you have Bale in that armored suit, and don't even let Hardy show off his physique? C'mon. You're making him look terrible.

The mask doesn't bother me, though. It looks like there may be some kind of air filter system on it, so my guess is that this Bane may huff some kind of drug to make him "strong" as opposed to going with Venom as it is shown in the comic books. That wouldn't really fit in with the Nolan Bat-verse.

Or Nolan could just say "fuck all" and have it so Bane doesn't even use any kind of strength enhancing chemical...

@ Chibi-Iroh Well I have to respectfully disagree when it comes to a mask that is in my opinion iconic to the character. Imagine Batman without his cowl. His eyes could have still been visible. I'm just saying that awful mask will actually take me out of the movie when I'm watching it.

i know it probably wouldnt fit with nolans vision, but id love to see a cg bane like all venomed out, its the last movie, i think its worth it

Every time we see bane, he's smaller than Batman. I guess the cinematography will fix it, but still. And for some reason Batman's mask looks weird to me. It's too big and too black; it's disproportional to the rest of the suit.

The mask? Doesn't look like it has any purpose based on how it looks. Is it some sort of respirator?

Finally, Batman's cowl just looks like it's tapered in from the temples down. It's too narrow above the ears, plus the cape usually covers the shoulders and neck, giving it a beefier look. This is a very light-weight look which takes away some of the intimidation value, in my opinion.

And if not...hey, it could be worse, people. For example, there could be a scene where Batman is urinating a stream of fire like in the next Ghost Rider movie. 8 )

No point in getting your panties in a knot over Bane's mask and Batman's cowl and Batman appearing in daylight and this and that and the other. Doesn't anybody have faith in Nolan? He molded the Bat-verse into something he could use for his films and the first two were pretty damn good. All you nay-sayers should just wait until the actual movie comes out before passing all kinds of judgement

I actually like the bat-suit a lot but I agree with you about the cowl. I think its the angle of the pointed ears. They're too far forward and it warps the forehead into an awkward position. I also agree that Bane's costume looks odd but I love the mask. I think we have to remember that photojournalism creates a totally different aesthetic than what the cinematographer will produce. The movie is gonna be less exposed, and more action oriented when it comes to shots. I think it will look great.

well i like how bane is looking like a dumb arse. but this movie is going to be tight.

The street scenes look like those brawls out of the Gangs of New York movie. And the Bane look is just alright to me...seriously. Just seems off for some reason. Sure hope that Batman/Bane brawl will be a good one though...the angle of that picture with them seems alright...not Knightfall worthy of course. But alright nevertheless.

Nolan's a great story-teller, but he's not a great fight scene cinematographer.

WB should've hired a fighting cinematographer like the one that did Captain America at least.

Bane...is so...small. I expected him to be a lot bigger than Batman.

The thing about Batman's cowl is, it's too round and the ears point inward.  Also around the mouth area, there's just a little hole. Usually, the mask ends right under the nose/cheeks and Batman's mouth and jaw are visible. Bane looks so small.

I'm gonna be the first to say it but Bane looks f'n boss, and anyone whose watched Hardy act especially in Bronson should know he can do intimidating really well. People need to stop complaining about him being smaller than Batman because size does not equal power and intimidation.
