Origin
Confined to a wheelchair after a dangerous encounter with the evil General Immortus, the brilliant yet unorthodox Niles Caulder became determined to dedicate his life to protecting the world from villainy. Caulder - known to many as "the Chief" - gathered together victims of cruel and fantastic fate and formed a super-powered team of outcasts known as The Doom Patrol.
As the original leader of the team, The Chief sometimes employs manipulative methods in his fanatical mission. The Doom Patrol later discovered that the Chief had engineered the very accidents that gave them their strange abilities. Although they have since forgiven him, the group keeps a wary eye on their mysterious leader.
