    Challengers of the Unknown

Mark Waid and George Perez are working magic with the re-launch of The Brave and the Bold.

I had read the original run starting sometime after Issue 150, the Batman and ? (Suprman in disguise) team-up. So, all I've ever known is that The Brave and the Bold was the Batman team-up book, like DC Comics Presents was the Superman team-up book; like Marvel Team-Up was pretty much the Spider-Man team-up book.

Gving the Book of Destiny to classic The Challengers of the Unknown is a stroke of genius.

Adding this Megistus to a DC Universe that is also home to Bob the Monitor, the Anti-Monitor, Darkseid, Trigon, Mongul and Negron...I don't know, I just don't know.

I just saw the Warlock of YS face off against Zatanna, Dr. Fate and Zatara over in Justice League Unlimited - boy he gets around!

The Superman - Silent Knight team-up is a good, old-fashioned romp. I'll be looking in the department store toy aisle for the Superman with sword and emblem shield! The set-up is quick and to the point and the story wraps up just as quickly as it starts. Take a second to look at the two-page spread on page seven and eight and then page nine. Go ahead - I'll wait here.

    Back? Good.

Talk about your eye-candy. That is some nice work by Perez. Kinda reminds me of the Changeling issue of the Tales of the Teen Titans mini-series from back when. Sweet.

The best part of this issue is the Teen Titans back-up. A nice homage to the kids that got their start here. This tales takes place right after their first team-up against Mr. Twister in the classic Brave and the Bold 54. The Justice League is in Atlantis for Arthur and Mera's wedding; and, the good king lavishes all the credit on Garth for making the day possible. Nice gag about why Speedy isn't at the wedding. All things (O'Neil & Adams) considered I would wonder what exactly Roy is doing. Wally is a jerk to Garth and Dick a little too soft spoken, and that's where the real story is. Not so much in either Oceanus or Megistus. It could have been Barry Allen giving the talk the Titans needed, but it was good King Arthur who rules the day. This really is a nice tribute to the Classic Titans.

If you are reading Teen Titans Year One, you should read this issue, too.

Me, I'm hangin' in for a Jack Knight team-up story from the Book of Destiny. Maybe a Jack Knight - Hal Jordan or Kyle Raynor or Alan Scott or Jade (Jennie-Lyn Hayden) team-up. That would be sweet.
