Is This The '50's or 1999?
For me, reading The Brave and the Bold is like going to the buffet. EVERYbody loves going to the buffet, right? I could live on burgers, fries, pizza and starwberry milk shakes. Give me a Chicken sandwich (TM) made like a Whopper (TM) with an order of onion rings and a strawberry milk shake and I am one happy camper. That was life in high school. Good times. Now my diet ranges from that to the buffet. At the buffet you can stick to just what's on the salad bar or you can branch out.
Me, I'm a little worn on the world-shattering, universe-crumbling events. The Book of destiny feels a little like that, but Mark waid and George Perez are handling it differently. They've found a spot at one end of the DC Universe pool, and tossed in a pebble and we get to see what the ripple effect looks like. It doesn't feel forced or heavy-handed. It doesn't feel like a stunt.
I read the Legion a couple of times back in the Paul Levitz days. I stopped reading because of economics and when the future became so fluid that it was constantly changing. That was during the '80's. I picked up Legion and Legionnaires for a bit in the early '90's, and then the future changed some more again. Okay, so maybe this issue is due to promote the Legion books - with Supergirl - and the cartoon on the WB. It still was fun to read. The Legion was still pretty familiar and hadn't changed or grown that much. The only thing I noticed was that thins was a Legion that didn't have access to Time Travel. I'm not sure whether or not I miss the old Time Bubbles or not. It would have made an easy out for the story.
But then, I like to take my time and graze a little at the buffet.
