Case of the Stolen Super Powers
The third JLA tryout book is an all action story featuring the threat of Professor Ivo and his android creation Amazo. In a tale that is full of scientific fact as well as good entertainment, the 5 heroes on the cover (plus cameos from Superman and Batman) battle it out to stop Ivo's plans of world domination and immortality. Yes, all the cliched weaknesses are here - GL / yellow objects, Martian Manhunter / fire, but author Gardner Fox had a formula that worked, and the League splitting into teams to counter the threat that faced them and the book being divide into chapters were things that would serve the League well and would prove popular with readers for years to come. If you can go for the Flash with yellow wings!? then you'll give this issue 5 out of 5. That just stretched it bit too far for me, so its a 4.5. Clever twist at the end of the tale as Ivo drinks his immortality elixir, only to be given a sentence which matches his life expectancy.
