I'd been reading how cool this story by David Hine and Doug Braithwaite was going to be and I was pretty excited to see it unfold. I'm excited about what's going on over in Green Lantern (I don't know why, but the concept of multiple Lantern Corps appeals to me especially when the Blue Lantern is powered by hope...and a lit bit of change. *Gasp* President Obama is an alien - he's a member of the Blue Lantern Corps!!); always liked The Phantom Stranger - hey throw in Green Arrow? Sure, I'm there.

The problem I have with this issue starts with the cover. This isn't a Hard-Travelin' Heroes team-up between GL and GA as the cover would have you believe. This is still Green Lantern and The Phantom Stranger (or The Phantom Stranger and Green Lantern, whichever you prefer) with Green Arrow. That should have been made clear from the get-go. The Stranger and GL are still on another planet with the other, alien GL. Green Arrow's role here is so small and minor. The cover is great looking. It might have looked just a little better with The Stranger in the background as well and the alien head. He's pretty much the driving force of the story - has been from the beginning.

I kinda wish that DC would incorporate some sort of recap - at least here in The Brave and the Bold. I just started reading the issue without grabbing the last two to catch up and I was a little fuzzy or who The Purge was again, who he had possessed, how The Stranger had been taken down, who was dead and what the alien GL's wife had to do with it again. I'm still wondering how this connects to the special children that GA has to go protect. Maybe I read over that in the previous two installments. Anyway, it looks like I'm going to have to wait until the next installment comes along and go back and read the whole thing start to finish.

Don't get me started on the pros and cons on graphic novels and trade paperbacks over the monthly issue.

I think I may be losing interest in The Brave and the Bold. I like that it's fresh and doesn't sit back and rely on the crutch of having Batman anchor the title. But, I liked Batman in B & B. Just like Superman in DC Comics Presents and Spider-Man in Marvel Team-Up. Maybe it's the economy, and I'm looking that much closer at what I read and how much bang I get get for the buck. I'm wondering if there's more bang coming from B & B. Or, maybe it's just that my "Give A Damn's" busted.
