The Storm of Chaos continues, now symbolized by two magical fish, Yin and Yang, battling each other.
Tim continues to float through the unending waters below the Tower of the Moon. He isn't drowning, but can't control his motion, and is tormented by the way the water spirits teased him about his fear of sleeping with Leah.
A six-armed shark-man, Aegaeon, suddenly comes by and hits Tim for being so accepting of his upcoming potential drowning. Tim knocks him back, magically.
The movie director, wielding his sword, is grabbed by a tentacle monster, but gets away. He continues looking for Mona, the actress, who is caring for Tim's body. He is angry at her for ruining the movie, as he sees it. He transforms into a tentacle monster himself, but also shrinks to miniature size.
Yin and Yang continue to cause tumult in the waters.
Leah doesn't want to drink the cup filled with the spirit of the mermaid. Her whole life has been about trying to escape a box and getting to be herself, and if she drinks, she'll once again be imprisoned and forced to live under another's ideas. But, to save Tim, she drinks it.
The shark-man, who embodies the idea of being a manly man, tells Tim to stop apologizing and accept his role as an Opener, and the use of force. He wants Tim to "grow a spine" and Tim responds by fighting back. The shark-man wants Tim to be more aggressive, and realizes Tim is afraid of himself. He doesn't know what to do with his power. Aegaeon agrees to train Tim.
Leah wakes up as a mermaid, and despite her former fears, loves her new reality. She sees the relationships between everything. She sees the Chaos Storm in a new way, and finds a bowl with the Yin and Yang goldfish. She feeds them, and they calm down.
Back in the real world, Mona and Tim sit alone, with the film crew all gone. Tim, taught by Aegaeon to understand how to accept responsibility for changing things, got rid of them by going back in time and changing the way the desert was protected by the law. Mona leaves, but Tim waits for Leah.
Tim is now more willing to do things, instead of just letting things happen. He is no longer afraid of his feelings for Leah.
Leah, however, is now stuck in her Tower, and can no longer even see Tim. They are separated.
