The Beach Stars (ビーチスターズ, Bīchi Sutāzu) is a shonen manga series that was created by Masahiro Morio. This series is a comedy sports manga with some fan service and brief nudity.
Plot Summary
In the wake of having her beloved school volleyball team disbanded due to a lack of members, Iruka Nanase and her friends struggle to keep playing the sport they love and soon discover both beach volleyball and a powerful rival known as Silent Angel, Sanae Hayakawa. Iruka aims to defeat Sanae and win the title at the Madonna Cup, but first must revive their team and get new members.
Publication History
In Japan, The Beach Stars was first published in Shogakukan's Shūkan Young Sunday magazine in 2007. The first volume was released on July 10, 2007, with the 7th and final volume being released on April 4th 2009. The series hasn't been licensed for the US.
The Madonna Cup (マドンナカップ) that plays as the prominent event of the series is a real world beach volleyball competition for high school teams that's held each year.
The Beach Stars manga series is filled with several examples of product placement throughout the series. Pocari Sweat (ポカリスエット, Pokari Suetto) is a popular Japanese sports energy drink that is frequently displayed in the pages for The Beach Stars. The Molten Sports brand of volleyball is the only one seen to be used in the series. The brand name is often displayed clearly.
