One of the cool things about getting a movie on DVD or Blu-ray is that it tends to come with a whole lot of bonus features and footage that you probably didn't get to see during your trip to the theater. That's exactly one of the perks we'll get in the upcoming The Avengers Blu-ray/DVD release. Apparently, Marvel Studios will spare no expense on their DVD release of the third highest grossing film of all time.

The DVD/Blu-ray 4-disk set will feature never before seen footage that was cut, audio commentary by the film's director and screenwriter Joss Whedon, an alternate ending and plenty of featurette's featuring much of the film's cast and crew. Whedon previously teased that there will be at least 30minutes worth of deleted scenes that feature a Captain America/ Peggy Carter reunion that was cut from the film; so there' a good chance we'll be seeing that. Before the DVD/Blu-Ray hits stores on September 25th, however, the studio has released some footage to remind us of why we all fell in love with the film in the first place. The clip immediately below is one piece of never-before seen footage that was cut from the film and it certainly has us scratching our heads and wondering where the heck it would have fit into the movie. How is it all you comic bloggers have completely missed the $140 ten disc blu-ray set coming out? All the Avengers movies from Iron Man to Avengers, also 3D verson where applicable, that comes in a metal SHIELD suitcase that has a glowing cosmic cube inside. No joke, look it up on Amazon. I'd link it, but I want you geeks to work for it.

Awesome news! I am so getting this! I'd hoped they'd do a Lord of The Rings though and release an extended cut as well. Ah well you can't get everything you want. This is still one of my all time favourite films!

I wonder if this is going to be included in the phase one box set?

Blu-Ray deffidently, although I can only watch Blu-Ray at my moms and on my laptop :/, but still Blu-Ray FTW.

Favorite movie this year, by far. Seen it five times in theaters. Can't wait for my special edition BD set to come in.

That first clip is not deleted footage. It is a scene from the bonus mini-movie. The couple in the car found an alien gun and plan to use it to go on a Bonnie and Clyde type robery spree. The movie is titled "ITEM 47".

I'd find it hard to believe that they wouldn't include the directors or special cuts of all the movies in the set, although more research on this topic is need, but right now the general consensus is.. I am buying it!

Actually that's not a deleted scene from the film. It's a clip from the Marvel One-Shot film Item 47. It the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of a back-up story in the comic book.

Damn I wish I could afford the Avenger Assemble box set! The  Blu-ray does look bad-ass too. 

Cap's line "Son - just don't" - still makes me cringe -

and the costume - uggh.

They need to update his costume with the New Marvel Now version - now that's a cool uniform & doesn't look as silly.

@Toastalchemist: I always think that. I'm a DVD buyer, and we always get screwed over, it seems. Guess I'll have to buy my very first Blu-Ray for this and watch it on my PS3.

after watching it i was convinced they had 3 alternative endings where cap or hulk or thor got rid of the missile instead of ironman, but because ironman was the more popular they went with iron man getting rid of it instead
