etragedy's The Avengers #5 - The Invasion of the Lava Men! review

Unnecessary Postscript to Hulk/Thing Battle

This issue picks up where the Hulk vs. Thing battle left off in the pages of Fantastic Four. Unfortunately, the Lava Men are no more interesting as villains than they were when they first appeared to bedevil Thor in the pages of Journey Into Mystery. In fact, it's actually the first of a series of forgettable Avengers issues that re-introduce old foes, or introduce new ones that are soon to be classic adversaries (Zemo, Executioner, Enchantress, Kang, Immortus, Black Knight, etc.) but which are marred by silly pseudoscience and ultimately serve to merely mark time rather than any real development in the overall characters.
