No one likes the Hulk.
It's only issue #2 and the Avengers are already fighting amongst themselves. In the opening team meeting, Thor and Hulk are at each other's throats, the Thunder God deeming the Hulk's purple under-wear "repulsive". You tell him Thor. This inner fighting between the team and general dislike for the Hulk sets-up the tone for the entire issue. We're introduced to a body-switching alien called the Space Phantom, who actually kind of looks more like bizarro Count Chocula than your average alien. His big plan is to take out the Avengers in order to clear the way for a big ol' alien invasion. He tries to do so by switching bodies with the Avengers, planting seeds of distrust and hatred amongst them and creating all-out chaos.
This issue also sees Hank Pym unleashing his Giant-man personna in the pages of the Avengers book for the first time. The red suit still looks cool today and it spares the reader the telepathic ants from last issue. Jan is even sillier/hornier than in the first issue as she starts to develop a serious crush on Thor:
"He sounds like a burlesque of a comic hero in Mad Magazine! But with those shoulders... those eyes--who cares how corny he talks!!"
Ironman has some pretty hilarious scenes in this issue. There's a bit where Tony is in his bedroom, recharging the golden armor by plugging it in a wall socket. And later on, when he's possessed by the Space Phantom, Thor stops him dead in his tracks by calling a rain storm and rusting up his armor. Yes, that's all it takes. :)
Hulk leaves the team (already) after the whole Space Phantom incident, as recent events have shown him his team-mates don't trust him at all, no matter what. Elsewhere in the issue: lots of fighting and a special appearance by Rick Jones and the Teen Brigade. Pretty decent.
