Easily the Weakest of the Avengers First Year

There's a certain formula to the early issues of The Avengers: An incredibly powerful foe in a distant place (Loki / Namor / Zemo / Kang / Immortus) recruits some proxy to fight the Avengers for him, usually separating the Avengers so each hero gets some solo page time. This time it's Kang, using a Spider-Man robot. And, once again, the Avengers fall for a really obvious trap.

But it's not the formulaic nature of the story that makes this the weakest issue of the first year of The Avengers; it's the silly and arbitrary nature of the powers posesed by Kang (who can do seemingly anything), the robot Spider-Man, and the Avengers themselves. Just a few examples include Giant Man, who seems to be able to control the Wasp's size at his will, and who has a danger sense and other powers not previously mentioned; and Spider-Man himself (the real one), who is able to fly using web wings. No. Just no.

    For completists only.
