i'd highly reccomend it...

i've got the full run with the exception of one or two issues towards the end and i was never dissapointed in the storyline.

the only 'authority' stuff i was a bit hesitant with was the run with Kev...

not really keen on that one, but ask others and see what they thought

Yes.

That's actually Midnighter's solo series, but yes, I'd say so. I've got every issue and occasionally I reread them. Good stuff.

Thanks for reminded me. When I said I had every issue, that didn't include anything with Kev. I didn't like the books about him.

Stormwatch prime is coming back (or at least making an appearance) in the next issue of Stormwatch PHD.

Ugh, but that means I'd have to spend money on PHD. Not gonna happen.

I only ever picked up "Authority: Relentless" I found that 90% of the characters had their heads stuck right up their @$$#$. Other than that, it was a good book. I still re-read it from time to time.

That's it exactly.

They were the JLA without any of the moral fiber or humanity.

The most important thing to most of these characters was to look pretty as they beat the snot out of warlords or otherworldly conquerors.

If I had seen one more page making some veiled reference to how much of a bad-ass Jenny Sparks was, I would have dropped the book then and there. Oooo... she's made of electricity..! BFD.

I like how you think, my friend.

question should i read jenny sparks first be fore i read the authority since its the origin or would it make no difference eitehr way

#24 Posted by Methos (40103 posts) - - Show Bio

either way

the secret history tales can be a bit confusing if you're not 'entrenched' in the characters, for example Jenny Quantum is mentioned several times also there are several spoilers for the comic itself.

i'd reccomend reading at least upto 'earth inferno' then reading the secret histories... but thats just my opinion

I've commented about this in another forum about Midnighter in specific - but I think it bears mentioning here as well. The Authority is written as a bit of a mockery of the traditional super hero genre. It does to Super Heroes what Avenue Q did to Sesame Street. Midnighter is Batman, Apollo is Superman - that's the joke. Batman and Superman are a gay couple. The Doctor - an obvious reference to Doctor Strange - is damn near the most powerful being in the Universe, second only to Jenny Quantum, and yet he is a heroine addict and a lover of horse-porn. It takes the concept of "super heroes are people too" up a few levels. The Authority is written almost as a commentary on the whole genre of super hero works. Its gritty, and as much as many may not want to admit it - its much closer to how life really would be if super powers existed.
