The Amazing Spider-Man

Published by Marvel that started in 1963

Volume Description

Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Spider-Man first appeared in the last issue of Amazing Fantasy telling the wall crawler's origin. After the success of Amazing Fantasy #15 (Aug. 1962) a few months later the same creative team came back to start an ongoing series focusing on the character the two of them created.

The original series that tells the stories of Spider-Man.

While attending a demonstration in radiology, high school student Peter Parker was bitten by a spider which had accidentally been exposed to radioactive rays. Through a miracle of science, Peter soon found that he had gained the Spider's powers... and had, in effect, become a human spider! From that day on he was... The Amazing Spider-Man

Lee and Ditko created the first flawed super hero with characteristics only a sidekick would have at the time. Stan Lee and Steve Ditko continued to be the creative team of the book for 38 issues (1963 - 1966) and Stan Lee ended his run as writer of the book on issue 100. The book's run continued until issue number 441 (Nov. 1998) when Marvel relaunched the title's second volume with a #1 (Jan. 1999). On the title's 40th anniversary the numbering was reverted to go from issue 58 to issue 500 (Dec. 2003).

After the controversial One More Day event and the beginning of the Brand New Day storyline the book's publication frequency increased to three issues a month with a team of alternating writers ( Dan Slott, Bob Gale, Marc Guggenheim, Fred Van Lente, Zeb Wells, Joe Kelly, Mark Waid, and Roger Stern) and accompanied by a rotation of artists ( Chris Bachalo, Phil Jimenez, Mike McKone, John Romita Jr., Marcos Martin, and Barry Kitson) starting with issue 546 and ending with issue 647 (2008 - 2010). Staring on issue number 648 (Nov. 2010) the series was published twice a month with Dan Slott as the sole writer of the book and Humberto Ramos as the artist of this Big Time beginning run.
