Amazing Spider-Man #9: 'Spider-Verse' kicks off with style.
After months of teases and tie-ins, ‘Spider-Verse’ officially kicks off and it’s a heck of a start. I haven’t been following along with Amazing Spider-Man (I did, however, read the Edge of Spider-Verse series), but Slott makes it easy for readers new and old to jump in and get swept up in this multidimensional tale. As Morlun continues his hunt for Spiders, a myriad of Wall-Crawlers and Web-Slingers (including Spider-Man 2099, MC2 Spider-Girl and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham) meet up with Peter Parker and prepare to band together. Coipel’s art is sensational, blitzing the action beats and nailing the quieter character moments; my only complaint is that Peter is often shouting, yelling or being confused over information the reader already knows (names of characters, him being the Bestest Spider-Man Ever (TM)) but that’s a minor thing. It’s wonderful to witness so many Spider-Men and Women coming together, and I cannot wait to see where ‘Spider-Verse’ is heading.
