No Excuses, Honey, You're A Smart Guy 0

Spider-Island remains the best event I’ve ever read (admittedly I’ve read very few) because of how ridiculous and over the top it is. Even at its most dramatic, I find myself unable to worry or get too serious about it. I think that’s why Deadly Hands of Kung Fu didn’t work for me. Too self-serious! Thankfully the book is with me on this. Serious may come later on in the arc, but it’s just so chock full of jokes and fun that you can’t help but smile along as you read.Like many Spider-Books befor...

Spider Island gets creepy 0

After the incredible awesomeness of parts 1 and 2 of Spider Island, maybe it was a bit much to expect Dan Slott to sustain that level of quality. I mean, those issues to me were so well written and funny and action packed, could anyone keep it up for 6 or 7 more in a row? This issue kicks off well enough - I think the interactions between Carlie and Peter have been some of the best parts of the story. But then Slott has to pay attention to the growing number of side stories, and the first one th...

She's a Detective, buddy! 0

So Spider-Island continues and everything moves forward.  Reed keeps working on his cure.  J.J.J keeps freakin' out.  Anti-venom keeps curing people.  The main point of this issue seems to be none of this but rather the conflict between Peter and Carlie that's been under the surface at least since May (in real life time) if not longer.  She basically is one smoking gun (metaphorically) from being 100% confident that Peter is Spider-Man.  Sure, it took MJ forever, but Carlie is a top-notch detect...

"The metamorphosis has begun." 0

Synopsis: The true nature of the spider epidemic is revealed. What's Good? It's so fun seeing Peter and Carlie mingle in this issue. It's because Carlie is so independent and a cop that she's so close to learning Peter and Spider-Man are one in the same, and all she needs is one more push. Spider-Island is a great story to possibly change their relationship even further, and while I'm on the bandwagon that Mary Jane and Peter should be together (and Black Cat is a fling (speaking of which, where i...

Contagion 0

This review was originally posted on my Wordpress blog. Check it out HERE!Spider-Island is in full effect in issue #669, and I couldn't be happier with the direction its taken. Where many events have such a perpetual glut of doom and gloom, Spider-Island has been nonstop fun. This isn't the strongest issue of the arc thus far, mainly because we're in the midst of some pretty goofy stuff going on, but the reader is still getting Dan Slott's hilarious and inspired writing and Humberto Ramos' incre...
