"My very own, 'Girl Friday'".
Synopsis: When one of Peter's closest friends lands up in the hospital because of a mugging, what is more important: The mugger or his friend?
What's Good?
I had no idea what to expect in this issue before reading it. I assumed that they would be some kind of prequel to Spider-Island, however, to my surprise that there isn't even one. Instead, Dan Slott focuses on Peter putting his superhero gig over family and friends. Betty Brant is such an important character in Peter's life. It amazes me that most fans of Spider-Man never knew that Betty and Peter dated in the past. So when Peter hears that Betty was hurt and in the hospital, Peter becomes Batman once again on criminals hunting down the criminal who hurt her. We don't see that side of Peter that often, and while it's awesome to see him serious, at the same time, it makes him the bad guy as well. His friends and family are at the hospital while he's out looking for the guy that hurt Betty. I get a little sense that it's not just because of his responsibility, but because of guilt.
At first, I thought another death was coming, but that would be too soon coming off the death of Marla, and killing off Betty Brant would be odd for both this series and Venom. Speaking of which, Brant just came off nearly being killed in the recent Venom issue.
I'm all for some change in a series, but "I'll Never Let You Go" surprised me when Jay and Aunt May are moving to Boston. It's a huge step that I'm having some mixed feelings about (and may keep Aunt May from danger when Spider-Island starts), like when the Daily Burgle was destroyed.
The artwork is nice for the main feature. Ryan Stegman doesn't do anything special. You can see the emotion of every character in each page or panel especially the spread with Peter going around looking for the mugger."I'll Never Let You Go" was great as well.
What's Bad?
I was disappointed that there was no Infested interlude considering that Spider-Island starts next issue. There was small hints that it was starting (Carlie).
Overall: Despite no Infested storyline, I did enjoy this issue. It was something needed before the big event, Spider-Island starts. I really enjoy issues featuring Peter and Betty as like Peter stated, they're like siblings.
Oh, and I did like the real ending to the main story.
