Mr. Negative finally exposed
Synopsis: Anti-Venom, Spider-Man and Wraith goes after Mr. Negative, and later, Spider-Man goes Crouching Tiger, Hidden Spider.
What's Good?
I've been waiting for Spider-Man to take on Mr. Negative again for a while now. Mr. Negative was such an annoying character introduced in Brand New Day (in a good way) and it felt like his stories were going nowhere till now. Seeing Peter score a hit on Mr. Negative after what Negative did a WHILE back (#621) made me smile. Another smile appeared on my face at the fact that Peter has his own Avengers ID. I also liked the update with Norah/Randy/Phil situation. I'm curious if this will be touched on in Spider-Man Island in one of the tie-in books.
And as Spider-Island draws near, The next Infested story features Spider-Man and Shang-Chi, with Spider-Man continuing learning a new style of fighting due to his lost of his spider-sense. It doesn't seem like much, but I really like the idea of Peter trying to reinvent himself.
Along with the main story's art, I really liked Max Fiumara's artwork with the Infested story despite how short it was. He put a lot of effort in the spread page with Peter and Shang-Chi sparing. I also liked the spider lens on Madame Web's glasses.
What's Bad?
I didn't like who was really behind Wraith. I can understand that person reasoning, but it seems unnecessary. That person was great with the current role he or she was doing, but at least Jean DeWolff is still dead. I did like how Carlie found out who Wraith was though.
Again, I'm still not feeling Anti-Venom, mostly because he's been ignored until now (unless you've read his limited series). He just need more direction. Hopefully in Spider-Island, I'll see some.
This is a very minor complaint, but I'm still amazed that Mr. Negative hasn't been exposed till now. There have been subtle hints with Martin Li and Mr. Negative that very few characters have picked on, but should most characters be that surprised that Li and Negative are one in the same?
Overall: I'm sure this isn't the last we've seen of Mr. Negative, but at least he's finally been exposed. Great issue before Spider-Island starts up.
