omertalvendetta's The Amazing Spider-Man #662 - The Substitute Part 2; Infested Stage 3: Great Responsibility; Magnetic Man In The Choice review

Superb!!

Cover:

While I am not digging this cover (too cartoony for my taste, sadly), it is illustrating what lies within.  Maybe it's the way that Psycho-Man is depicted that really rubs me the wrong way.

The Good:

The characterizations of these individuals is amazing (no pun intended).  Gage writes these characters well in Avengers Academy obviously, but he was wanting to showcase their personalities here and it's extremely well done without sacrificing the main story and Spidey himself.  Gage even writes Spider-Man in a very accurate form, and though this may have to do with editing, I frankly believe that it's all Gage's depiction.  If so, he needs to write more Spider-Man; the man obviously does it right.  The back-up story was very touching as well, and I am intrigued to know how that will pan out in future issues.

The Bad:

The villain.  Truthfully, I could care less about this villain or any of his doings.  I understand that without him this issue would pretty much not exist, since it's because of the villain's abilities that the Academy members behave the way they do, but still, I was just not impressed by it.

Overall:

Never judge a book by its cover...  here, it couldn't be more true.  Visually, it's lacking what I usually dig in covers, but what lies inside is a tremendous tale well handled and illustrating characters from Avengers Academy (and we can't forget Spider-Man, of course) in an extremely well done story.

Spider-Man looks like he has a massive boner in the cover.
