The Gauntlet continues as we find out more about this new Vulture. When Mayor J. Jonah Jameson is accused of having a part in his creation, things don't look too good. Especially when this new Vulture comes looking for revenge.
The Good:
I've been digging what Mark Waid's been doing on Spider-Man. He's joined by Tom Peyer in the writing department. We're seeing that things are leading up to June's Grim Hunt as the Kraven family may finally get their revenge on Spider-Man. The art by Paul Azaceta is really nice. Along with Andres Mossa's colors, we're getting a new mood in Spidey's world. There's a nice contrast whether it's Electro walking around Ryker's Island penitentiary or Spider-Man getting a pie in the face by amateur villain Simple SImon. And it's always fun seeing Spidey play an office trick on Jameson.
The Bad:
I can't say I really care for this new Vulture. We do see more his past. Even though he may be more deadlier than Adrian Toomes, I still prefer the elder Vulture. It also felt a little too convenient how quickly Spidey decides to go see Jameson to try to help him over the Vulture accusation. He gets there right in time for another battle. Well, maybe not 'right' in time...
The Verdict:
Spider-Man's luck continues to go against him. You can sense that something big is about to come down. While I like the art and colors, in some ways it doesn't feel like the Spidey stories I loved when I first started reading. Clearly things have changed in Spider-Man's world. Because of the new Vulture's presence, I didn't like this as much as other recent issues. I still am enjoying the overall arc.
