dmstarz's favourite marvel comic cover no166
I remember reading some issues of the British Spider-man comic back in the 80s and two things stand out. One, there was a lot of business with the Black Cat and, maybe I was a little young, but it didn't float my boat (fool that I was!). Two, Spidey's encounters with the Hobgoblin seemed to go on forEVER. Did anyone else feel that? The Hobgoblin storyline kicked off in issue 238 of ASM and, although he flitted in and out, just kept going and going. So the finale of the storyline deserved a strong cover that would satiate readers' resolve. And Mike Harris delivers with a terrific piece with just Spidey and the vanquished Hobgoblin. However, there's a sense of regret in Spidey's pose here that helps inform the reader that the end is not one Peter Parker was pleased by (especially as his foe is his first girlfriend's husband). The stand out is the stunning, almost incriminating shadow that spreads from Spidey. 'Justice is Served' apparently, but the body language on the cover tells another story.
I have ranked this cover no 166 as part of a long term project I am producing on my own blog 'marvel-ous' on blogspot.com re: my favourite marvel comic book covers. Please visit http://dmstarz.blogspot.com and check out the other covers that have made my top 250.
