etragedy's The Amazing Spider-Man #16 - Duel with Daredevil review

Spidey vs. Daredevil Round 1

This is the first time Spider-Man encounters Daredevil. The two make a pretty good pair, their powers and goals being similar. The villain of the piece is The Ringmaster and his Circus of Crime. Ringmaster hypnotizes Spider-Man and has him fight off Daredevil.

Once that battle is over, the issue pretty much consists of Spider-Man single handedly mopping the floor with Ringmaster and his cohorts. Daredevil 'watches' from the stands as Matt Murdock. Really the Circus of Crime is pretty much a joke as it seems Spider-Man could beat them with one hand tied behind his back.

My biggest problem with the issue, aside from the ease with which Spidey whomps the Circus of Crime, is that Daredevil's heightened senses are taken a little too far - things like, in a crowded circus tent full of people and performers, he's able to pick out Spider-Man's heartbeat, etc. Aside from that it's a decent, if not particularly outstanding issue.

So , Daredevil and Spiderman meet, and the villain they have to fight is the incredibly lame "Ring Master" and his circus of crime. Holy Toledo,, these guys are pure Morts. This comic just barely makes average, Mostly due to the fact that I really do like Daredevil, and I kind of dug seeing the first fight between Spiderman and Daredevil. I also appreciate that Spiderman was under Ringmasters control, and the two didn't start fighting for no reason like the beginning of most super hero team ups...

The cover: 3 stars Not the greatest of covers by a long way, in fact it’s probably the poorest one to date. Spidey battles one of Marvel’s newest heroes, Daredevil … still in his original costume, the setting is in a circus big top … and there appears to be a pantomime villain in the background. Duel With Daredevil (22 pages) Marvel has had a history of using one comic series to promote another character or team, usually when they’re new or even sometimes when that comic is struggling in an atte...
