The INFINITY GAUNTLET Returns

 Who's next?

THE INFINITY GAUNTLET is one of my all-time favorite storylines in comics; something that doesn’t just seem good through the rose-colored lens of nostalgia. I re-read my copies of the original series from the early 90s by Jim Starlin & George Perez and the whole thing still holds up today. I can’t think of too many other stories from the Big Two that render modern superhero mythology so well in the style of classical mythology. The series was epic in both its scope and its telling.

Marvel editorial is, obviously, similarly enamored with ’91 crossover because they’re revisiting the story this August with AVENGERS & THE INFINITY GAUNTLET. In a manner that I imagine must be similar to SPIDER-MAN & THE SECRET WARS, this mini will retell the story such that it’s not specifically bound to any one period in Marvel’s continuity.

“Upon whose shoulders shall this task be weighed?” you ask.

It shall be two Brian’s - - Misters Clevinger and Churilla. Hearing that Brian Churilla is involved in this makes me all the more interested. I’ve done signings with the man at the previous two Comic Cons and can vouch for what a hard rocking dude he is. Like me, he’s got metal in his blood. Of course, all of that would be moot to you, the head-banging Comic Vine community, were it not for the man’s exceptional work you can easily check out in Archaia’s THE ENGINEER and Boom’s THE ANCHOR (written by another friend of mine, Phil Hester).

Some of you may know this storyline better from Capcom’s MARVEL SUPER HEROES fighting game, which was a loose adaptation. Or maybe not, seeing as that game out 14 years ago. For those who need a refresher, the storyline was about the Mad Titan, Thanos, coming into possession of the Infinity Gauntlet, which gave him universal omnipotence. After using that power to snuff out half the universe with simply a snap of his fingers, he then took the rest of the Marvel Universe on, single-handedly.

I'll check this out and i couldnt have put the run down of the classic any better than you have.
Spider-Man And The Secret Wars was a surprisingly good addition to its original, and i felt
well worth my time having read it, if this is anything like that i will be equally as pleased.

So THIS is the secret project Brian Clevinger's been talking about on nuklearpower.com? Cool, I'm all for it.

Thanos is going to ruin Spidey's collar by stretching it out in that way.

Infinity Gauntlet is indeed one of the best blasted stories in comics, bar none.  So many WTF? moments.  It made me love Captain America that much more, and if no one knows what I mean, please by all means try to get this original series to read.  Worth the effort.

Don't know how the continuation of this will pan out but I'm interested.

I will definitely be picking this up. I do like how they are sorta retelling some classic stories, like Secret Wars and the Clone Saga. I wouldn't mind seeing the follow up to this with Infinity War. Another one that would be awesome Atlantis Attacks.

Atomic Robo is the best comic out.

Infinitly gauntlet is one of the more badass, epic story ever written in comics, period.

I don't know how to feel about this, one part of me is feeling this good, the other tell me that the house of idea is just too short of it...

Thanos is one of my favorite Marvel characters.  Good to see they are bringing him back.

I really hope Marvel doesn't kill Thanos yet again at the end of the Thanos Imperative. Having a bum like Drax kill him was lame enough to begin with.
