Each week we take a close hands on look at comic book collectibles. There's so much stuff out there and some are better than others. This week we're going to look at a couple figures from the Marvel Universe line. I know many have mixed feelings about these. Some don't like the smaller size but it is that smaller size that makes it easier to collect a lot of them.

This week's selection is actually from the "Marvel's Greatest Battles Comic Packs." With a certain character making a cameo at the end of The Avengers, it felt like the perfect time to take a look at this set featuring Thanos and Adam Warlock. And it's no surprise that THE INFINITY GAUNTLET happens to be the number one selling comic on Amazon right now.

The packaging is a little bigger because it contains a reprint from THE INFINITY GAUNTLET #3. That seems like a strange place for a new reader to start. Having the first issue might have been a better incentive for the buyer to seek out the collected edition. But then, this issue might have more action than the first, set up issue.

The price is around $20. That means you get two figures and one comic. On the back of the packaging, you can see the other sets. For the price, personally, I'm not sure if I'd pick up any of the other sets. I'm just a big Thanos fan. I do have a bigger Adam Warlock figure...somewhere packed away. I just didn't have the time to search for it in my garage.

What was a little odd was the packaging. Thanos had a...protective piece over his...crotch. Maybe it was in his contract.

Like the other figures in the line, they do have an incredible amount of articulation. Sometimes it gets in the way and the figures' joints sometimes feel loose after a single pose or two. Again, it's the trade off in getting a figure that's cheaper in price and takes up less display space than the Marvel Select or Marvel Legends figures.

Take a look at these figures in action.

I love Marvel Universe figures because like you said their small size makes them easier to collect. These two look awesome as do the Quicksilver/Wonder Man and Gambit/Mr. Sinister two packs, while I agree at $20 the price is a bit steep... oh well I guess I'm gonna just have to suck it up and splurg on myself a little in order to get these.

Question: Considering how closely tied together they are and the fact that Thanos appeared in the pre credits scene in Avengers (thus alluding to him being in a sequel) ultimately mean we can expect to see Adam Warlock in an Avengers sequel as well? I'm sorry if this spoils the ending to Avengers for some of you but you should've seen it by now :-p

I've never been a fan of the 3.75 inch figures, but I will say this. I'm always surprised when I see how much detail some of them have. The sculpt and paint job done on lil' Thanos is pretty great. More than anything this just reminds me to get off my ass and re-read Infinity Gauntlet.

Hmm, these figures look great. But I already have the individual release of Thanos. Don't know if I can justify buying this set for a single new figure.

I actually have that finger-pointing Thanos. Technically its my best-friend/ex-roommates, but he left it behind... and its all faded now from being left out on the porch in the sun... but I still got it!

@sithfrog: The Gambit/Sinister two pack is interesting in that the comic inside, does NOT match the cover. The actual comic is Gambit: Origins #NotX-Men1.

    I have a butt-ton of the Marvel Universe 3/75" figs. A metric butt-ton.
