Deadline Hollywood reported that there is a bid in on the Terminator Franchise rights. ::drum roll::
Lionsgate, for those who don't realize, isn't one of the biggest production companies in the business, but they are very well known. They've produced the television show Crash, the recent Rambo film, and 3:10 to Yuma. They distribute many other films, including the upcoming Kick-Ass film. $15 million seems immensely small for the rights to a huge franchise. Terminator Salvation grossed in $380 million worldwide and cost $200 million. That's $180 million profit, not including DVD sales. So $15 million seems like a relative steal. There could be some company to come in and top the bid, which should happen, since this is a great franchise, and it would only take one film (hopefully) to make their money back. Now I hear Lionsgate's bid was $15 million, plus a gross corridor, for the rights to The Terminator franchise.
What can the fans hope for? One thing I really hope for is that Terminator war film we've all been waiting for. Essentially, the film Saving Private Ryan with Terminators in it. How awesome would that be? I've heard other people say that the third and fourth installments killed the franchise. I call hogwash on that. This franchise has two great films, a television show which the first season was great, a not so great film, and a film that was between ok and good. There's no way this franchise is dead.
Do you think any other companies are going to outbid Lionsgate? Do you think they'd do good with the franchise?
