Rights To Terminator Franchise Will Be Auctioned Off
Edited By gmanfromheck
The future for Terminator might not be set in stone. Halcyon, the previous holder of the rights, filed for Chapter 11 in August and have been trying to restructure its finances. Financial Times has announced that they now plan to sell off the rights (which do not include eariler Terminator movies).
Whoever buys the rights will have control over making new Terminator movies, TV shows and other spin-offs based on the franchise. This isn't the first time ownership of the rights have switch hands. There's been mention of the recent $60 million purchase of Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles and how the sale of the Terminator franchise should easily surpass that.
The auction should happen this month. Apparently several financial buyers have already expressed interest. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this. What will this mean for the next movie? Will Christian Bale "be back" or will the series take a new direction? What about McG's plan to have the next movie take place in present day London? We'll have to wait and see what the fate of the franchise will be.
I'm not sure who will buy it, and for how much. But the fact is, for me anyway, Terminator was only good with T1 and T2. The rest jumped the shark and is of no interest to me.
I hope the next Terminator film is good. Apparently there is gonna be a return of the T-1000. Robert Patrick (who played the T-1000 in T2) is gonna be a scientist who creates the mimetic pollyalloy and he gives his own identity as the T-1000's main human form, therefore resulting in the T-1000 in T2.
I'd like that idea and the idea in London too.
I never understood how anyone could be really into Terminator movies. Like the first couple were alright but if someone told me they were a fan of the Terminator franchise I would tell them to: "Get bent".
How great would it be if some regular Terminator fan gets enough cash to gain the rights? That'd be sick in my book.
