    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Movie » Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles released on August 08, 2014.

Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, the Heroes in a Half Shell return in an all-new live-action film. Instead of suits like the original trilogy, the actors are using motion capture to bring the Turtles to the big screen.

I'm really excited for this new movie, and was reading about it. Found this today. I don't know, do you think people have a point and it's too much like a 9/11 reminder with the date in bad taste or are people just too sensitive? Paramount posted it on twitter but removed apparently. This is the release date in Australia btw(not USA, which opens Aug 8th)

I don't see the problem. Are artists forever forbidden from depicting a large building exploding because of 9/11? From my Pperspective, people don't usually get upset when slavery or the holocaust are depicted in fiction so I don't really get why 9/11 is forbidden ground.

@pperspectiveandreality: Because September 11 is written on the damn poster. I don't see how that's so hard to understand. I also don't think it's unreasonable for people to ask for one day where the media doesn't post pictures of exploding friggin' skyscrapers.

Agreed. It was a case of unfortunate marketing with the wrong type of poster on the wrong date. An accident on Paramount's part but still one that their PR department should have checked through before publishing.

I actually remember when True Lies 2 was supposed to come out it involved buildings and planes or something similar, but I believe that was around or shortly after 9/11 so they canned it entirely.

I do wonder though if the date had been different, you guys think it still would have been this controversial? That date though, as some others said the marketing on that date the guy lol perhaps he was drunk or something, I do wonder if he still has a job. Things like this can kind of get you fired these days.

@jaken7: exactly. Its a part of our history, no reason to run from it. If they wanna reference it, they can. Its similar to politicians avoiding mentioning slavery. You're not making fun of it, its OK to mention.

Not for transformers because that's not what the movie is about. But I don't see what's wrong with depicting 9/11. There have been rape, terrorist , torture, holocaust and slavery movies, yet we are scared to even mention 9/11 on a poster.

@jayc1324: You realize it wasn't their intention to reference it, yes?

Yes there are movies that have dealt with those issues. There have also been movies about 9/11. What you're missing is the context. Even if it WAS a documentary about 9/11, you don't show a picture of bodies jumping off of an exploding skyscraper with the words September 11 on it. Why is it so hard to grasp that that is indeed insensitive?

It is funny that if the explosion wasn't there or the date wasn't September 11th. Nobody would batter an eye lid.

I think people have overreacted to this. It has nothing to do with 9/11 they are jumping from a building that has an explosion on it.

Though people will choose to view it as something offensive. Whatever.

@jaken7: you are making it and turning it into something it is isn't with word play. Saying bodies jumping off and exploding skyscraper. What makes you think it is a sky scraper? It looks simply like a building, and these "bodies" are animated ninja turtles.

@cable_extreme: Thanks for mentioning that. Yeah, bodies jumping off of said exploding building makes it even worse considering all the men and women who resorted to that when they were stuck in those towers.

This has nothing to do with political correctness. This has to do with being decent f***ing human beings.

Go take your "le sigh. Omg. This country and its political correctness" attitude to a thread about a Spanish teacher being fired for saying negro (the color black in Spanish) or something. It isn't needed here.

@cable_extreme: -_- Yeah, it's a two story office building. FFS.

So what? They are beings jumping from a tower. The movie is TMNT, it would be weird if they weren't turtles. That doesn't make it less insensitive.

If this poster was the turtles leaping out of the twin towers as it crumbled beneath it's own weight, that would be different. Then it would indeed be referencing the attack. But some generic building? Did you know that there has been buildings that have been attacked before 9/11? There has been buildings bombed after 9/11 too. When a movie depicts some generic war scene, I don't crap my pants because WWII happened.
