Ahh it's a pirates life for me! I have a history of pirates in my past so I was very excited that this issue of turtles in time delt with the pirate life. I have seen online that this issue is getting mixed reviews but for me this is a 5 star book, I really like everything about this issue. Ben Bates does a fantastic job on the art. The art is smooth and clean at a distance but on close ups jit has a rough looking texture and it works perfectly for me and is a welcome change from the previous issue. The pages look great and has some nods to the original 90's movie. Writer Erik Burnham gets the turtles voices down and tells a compelling story of pirates trying to be good. We get some good character development in the issue and we get some truly funny moments. I would have liked to see a little more action from the turtles and Renet pops up for a moment again and really serves no purpose except to remind the reader that she is why the turtles are in this place in time, but these are just very minor complaints. Overall I loved this issue fantastic art and I just had a great time reading this issue. The two page spread of the turtles killing time on the boat really sold me. The tease at the end will have turtle fans wanting this certain character to show up further down the road.
