I know some haven't really been liking the New 52 Teen Titans, but I just got Vol. 1, and I'm really enjoying it. Whether you like the book or not, though, I was just wondering what everyone thinks of the New 52 Red Robin design. I think it's completely awesome and way better than the pre New 52 design (which I was never a big fan of).

@danhimself: I don't know why, but that one just never did it for me. I think it may be the cowl that I don't like. It's just kind of plain.

I love the new costume. Maybe because I never liked the earless cowl. it looks lame.

No, it made a bad suit worse. Red Robin was and is a terrible name/mantle to begin with, and the Kingdom Come design looked like a knockoff Doctor Mid-Nite. It was bad all around. Then the reboot happened and somehow they managed to make it even worse.

If anything, I agree that they should go with the "unternet" suit.

THAT'S A GOOD REASON WHY NIGHTWING SHOULD NOT BE RED! WHY CAN'T HE BE ****ING BLUE?! HAVING ****ING NIGHTWING RED IS ****ING ****ED UP!!! If NIGHTWING was blue AND RED ROBIN red, THEN IT WOULD BE FINE! BUT NO, THEY GOTTA BE THE SAME COLOR!

PS: I'm actually not even nearly as pissed off, only making a somewhat obscure reference.

I like this one more than the completely covered head, but the wings in the New 52 costume really seal the deal for me.

The N52 version has too many unnecessary details on it, and the wings just look terrible to me, makes him look more like Falcon Jr. than a Robin (and it was not needed to change the cape since it already had an inbuilt glider).

It definitely isn't the worst, although I'd say neither version of the costume is particularly great.

It isn't the coolest costume in the New 52, but it is a step above from what he previously wore, I will tell you that.

The New 52 Red Robin redesign feels a bit too 90s for me. I'm saying this, admittedly, as someone who was never a big fan of the Red Robin identity in the first place, as I grew up with Tim Drake as my Robin.

The Pre New 52 Red Robin, though I wasn't crazy about the cowl, was much less cluttered.

That looks genuinely awesome. I'm not too sure about the visor, but I can dig it. Hadn't seen that rendition before. Seems like RR has gone through more than a couple of redesigns/tweaks. I'll admit that I'm not particularly well-versed in any of the previous continuity (I know the highlights) since I started reading with the New 52. Hopefully that won't completely nuke my credibility on this site.

    Credibility nuked. Begone.

nah jk, Brett Booth put this on his tumblr as concept art. I'm not a fan of unnecesary detail, but Ilike that he has more armored gauntlets like Bruce and Nightwing rather than bulky leather gloves like his current costume or those stupid two piece gloves he, Dick, and Damian wore.

Which makes me wonder who gets the final say for costumes? Issue Editors, the Editor-in-chief, or whom? Higgins claimed he would've loved to keep the blue and/or fingerstripes. I guess we could just blame Jim Lee. Even if he's innocent, blame Jim Lee.

Whatever costume they go with needs a cowl imo. Choosing a cowl set him off from the other robins, emphasized his similarities to Bruce, and was allot more practical which to me made it feel like something Tim would pick over a domino mask. It seems most people's complaints about the cowl had to do with how plain it was so it could be designed differently, but the cowl itself was a good move for the character. That being said I don't hate Booth's visor thing

I think the new costume is dogs***. I absolutely loved Tim's old one, especially because it had a cowl. I'm not a fan of any of Tim's post-Robin domino mask looks.

You do know that the first costume is also designed by booth. And this costume is a redesign that booth came up with recently. DC may not be so inclined to keep changing the costumes of their heroes.

I would say it's one of the worst redesigns of the New 52. The excessive buckles and pouches are superfluous and impractical. The wings are also just terrible. Not even the artist likes them.

Superman's costume was always representative of his heritage. The fact that it's armor is not only dumb but all the extra detailed lines and stuff are too visually noisy. I'm ok with the lack of red underpants, even though they're iconic, but they didn't need to make it armor.

    Its not really armor.

He wore something indestructible when he went unto brainiac's ship.

    1. Superman's costume was never representative of his heritage, his outfit was created to mimic 40s athletes who would wear underwears and stuff like that. Its very earth like and theres nothing alien about it.

    2. Superman is not indestructible. He would also get damage and he would get hurt. I wonder if he did wear the kryptonian suit would he still get killed by doomsday. Just because someone is strong, are they not allowed to have any other protection?

    3. What you think is visually noisy, others call it realistic and less campy. Nobody wears spandex out anymore. Ever.

Even the way the belt and the arms have the outline of the shield looks cohesive, very alien-ish and gorgeous. Compared to how he used to look.

Ever.

    4. It look so much better than the old suit.

Even the way the belt and the arms have the outline of the shield looks cohesive, very alien-ish and gorgeous. Compared to how he used to look.

    1. Yes it always has been representative of his heritage. Have you read other Superman stories? In Superman: Secret Origin, Ma Kent makes his suit based on images she sees from the Kyrptonian ship and creates a suit reflective of the Kryptonian garb. His shield is also the symbol for the house of el or it's based on the krytponian letter "S." But yes when Seigel and Schuster created the costume they looked to 40s athletes, but in the story it was reflective of what the kryptonians wore. So when you say it's very "earth like" and yet also claim that nobody on earth wears spandex, you're contradicting yourself. Also there's the fact that Superman has never been a very alienated character, and since he was raised on earth, he basically considers himself a human.

    2. You know this is all fiction right? If Superman was fighting Doomsday and the writers wanted him to die, he still would've died. Having armor wouldn't have changed anything. It's still superfluous for his to have armor. He isn't a warrior.

    3. It is visaully noisy. The design is unnecessarily complicated by those lines and details. I wouldn't consider it "realistic."

    4. Good argument.

The extra S-Shields aren't terrible, but as a design element, overdoing it lessens the power of the big S. I don't hate the New 52 look. It's not an abomination. I don't like it better than the original, but it's also very hard to compete with THE most iconic superhero look in the comics industry.

I think if they had just ditched the underwear and kept the belt red (maybe adding some yellow) and ditched the goofy looking S-Symbol in the middle that part of the costume would all work. I don't hate the collar, but the armory-look with the extra lines on the chest, arms, and legs are just busy and untrue to who the character is/was. Also the boots look goofy.

I liked the old one, with the hood and cowl. Idk, there was just something dignified about it. I think they should have changed his name, instead of his costume. Red Robin always seemed lame and derivative to me.

@Mbecks14: yes i have read secret origins and yes the cape was always his blanket, just like it is now. the shield is also the house of el symbol just like it is now. the addition is that right now the whole suit is kryptonian.

Secondly it is earthlike because it is based off 40s athletes. But nobody wears them NOW in this era because it is a thing of the past. Just like the man of steel movie, they did away with the panties because they wanted it to be more alien like.

For me i have been a fan of supes since forever. i love the old design but i know for one that it is dated. Smallville and earth 2 basically did what you said but i still prefrr new 52 design because of how intricate the design is. In the realistic world that we live in, seams and what not are part of the outfit and theres nothing to be ashamed of.

Yeah but the whole suit was always inspired by kryptonian garb.

I just don't think the armory look is visually appealing. It's not a terrible design though. The classic looks are iconic because they are so bold and simple. Adding more lines to the costume that don't serve a purpose or don't need to serve a purpose. The extra lines take away the cleanliness of the looks, and it really just looks too busy. Ditching the red briefs is fine but I'm calling it now that it will be sooner than later that someone will figure out that it's not a great look and trim down the excessiveness of the designs.

We live in a realistic world, but these characters do not. And by trying to force too much reality into it, historically doesn't work too great.

Basically this entire article summarizes my point:

People usually made fun of him because it looked like the Dr. Mid-Nite costume.
