    A Ravaged Soul

    The Story:

After a falling-out with her father, Ravager battles a drug addiction and winds up in Alaska where she uncovers some illegal operations going on.

    My Thoughts:

This story focuses on Teen Titans member Ravager, the daughter of Deathstroke. It's written by Sean McKeever without he exception of the first issue which was written by David Hine. Unfortunately for myself, I haven't yet had the opportunity to read the Teen Titans series and the events that have lead up to this point. I was still able to jump into the story and enjoy it and great deal. Ravager is a character I've desired to read and learn more about. Learning a little bit about her history and her relationship with her father was a pleasure.

I was unaware Ravager had any brothers or sisters. In the opening issue, we learn a little about them. Ravager visits her imprisoned father and we see the two engage each other in physical combat and nearly kill each other. It was an incredibly powerful scene and all around issue that was well written and even better executed.

The rest of the story picks up shortly afterwards with Ravager trying to find herself and where she fits in. Her past problems with Teen Titans members, specifically Wonder Girl, begin to occur again. To make things worse, Ravager is currently battling an addiction to epinephrine which she uses to heighten her senses and abilities. Sean McKeever's abilities as a writer really shine as he delivers great characterization and dialogue that keeps you immersed in the story. Ravager is a very complex character. There's so much more to her than meets the eye. She's battling her inner demons and doing everything she can to not become like her father. McKeever does a great job writing a trouble teenager in a mature and dramatic way.

Ravager finds herself thrust into battle with a former MI6 agent who is highly trained and exceedingly dangerous. She battles his evil machinations during a time she was incredibly vulnerable. The man was involved in a number of illegal activities which included smuggling firearms and trafficking women and drugs. He was a sadistic individual that posed an immense threat to Ravager which sort of caught her off guard. The final issue was handled so well. From the beginning to the end of this story we see Ravager grow and mature as a hero and a young woman. In the end she realizes all that matters is the choices she makes and whether or not she can live with them.

The artwork is by Yildiray Cinar except for the first issue which was drawn by Georges Jeanty. Both artists styles were great but Cinar's work was my favorite out of the two. He does an all around great job especially when it came to handling and executing the action sequences. He did a great job displaying how dramatic and intense these events really were.

This was an incredible read I enjoyed far more than I had ever anticipated. I highly recommend reading this whether you're a fan of Ravager or not. This comic will make you a fan of her and appreciate her in a new way.

    Rating: 5/5
