Teen Titans Issue 91
The Teen Titans are officially back! After a dark period that I don't like to talk about, J. T. Krul and Nicola Scott have successfully brought back the Teen Titans in full force, making the team fun and functional again. I for one couldn't be happier, because now the team that helped bring me into comics is my favorite team to read once more! But enough small talk, let's open up Teen Titans issue 91 and see where the party's at!
The issue opens up with a flashback to the youth of Dr. Caligan, the master manipulator behind the problem the Teen Titans face in the present, the super-powered youths. As Headcase, Jock, and Doll Face fight Superboy, Raven, Wonder Girl, and Beast Boy, Robin and Ravager find themselves fighting the entire student body, the subjects of more Caligan handiwork. Meanwhile, Bart wakes up to nightmares of his death, but Raven pulls him back into the fight, where he immediately runs in trying to stop Caligan's machines. Headcase goes after Raven, and finally having enough, Raven puts an end to the fight. As the issue draws to a close, we see that much has changed and much is the same, but above all, as we see on the last page, somebody needs the Teen Titans!
Nicola Scott closes out her first arc on pencils with style and flair, making the team look better than they have in years. Not to knock the many talented artists Teen Titans has had over the years, but Scott is truly giving the book the aesthetics of a classic. I really hope that she stays on for a long while and doesn't have to take any issues off. A few shots in particular really amaze, such as when Superboy and Wonder Girl find themselves pulled into a black hole. The cover is also one of my favorites that DC produced with this template, because Scott made it really energetic and it has a nice flow. Overall, Scott hasn't missed a beat. Plus, shout out to Jason Wright, who makes the Kid Flash costume look simple amazing, not to mention everything else.
Overall, Teen Titans is back, and next month we get a nice crossover with Red Robin. Here's hoping that Krul can continue to pump out incredible work and that Scott stays on for a nice long while. 4.5 out of 5 stars, gotta love the Teen Titans.
