Why Is He Diesel? He's Sure Not Vin
Oh jeez is this cover a mess. Wonder Girl and Diesel just mesh together visually creating a giant sharp blob right in the middle of the cover, and even Red Robin just blends into the stonework. Plus Wonder Girl and Diesel are both in super awkward static positions. Blech.
This issue handles it's missing 5 pages better than the previous one. It just kind of skips a bit between issues, which is awkward alone, but the rest of the issue plays out with a pretty natural pacing. It feels like we missed a scene, but its easy enough to resynch with the flow as Red Robin tries to play to Wonder Girl's emotions and Superboy is ready to keep fighting. The strategy Red Robin comes up with is really smart, full of excellent misdirection, and really highlights the abilities of the two well, while shedding more light on the mysteries of the Silent Armor.
Also shedding some light on Wonder Girl's past is Diesel. What the hell kind of name is that? Do people really have that as a legitimate name? It sounds like a supervillain name, yet it makes no sense as one because he has literally no abilities that would justify that name. It's weird, Wonder Girl plays the 'if you love me' card, and then soon after says 'the only thing you cared about was power!' Well if that was true, which it definitely seems to be, why would she have played the love card in the first place? She would've known it wouldn't work.
The thing about Diesel though, is that he's a pretty dull generic villain. His tie to Wonder Girl is interesting, but his general attitude is pretty boring on its own. His prior relationship with her seems pretty dull, I'm not too interested to see what kind of romantic history they shared, but there does seem to be some kind of 'apocalyptic destiny' tie between them, and Wonder Girl's tragic story deepens.
As much as I LOVE this Fabian Niceiza/Jorge Jimenez story in quality, the one in this issue was utterly pointless. It didn't establish anything new from DC Universe Presents #12, not did it summarize it for the benefit of those only following Teen Titans. Plus it failed to create any kind of conclusion to the story, instead offering up a 'The End?' to suggest it will be continued at some undetermined point in the future.
In Conclusion: 3/5
The main story and co-feature pretty much switched quality, this time it was actually a hinderance because it did absolutely nothing. It was well written and awesome looking.... but utterly useless. As for the main story, it was pretty good, but didn't really evoke a whole lot of emotion in me, an awkward balance.
