Recognizing how teen music magazines were attracting a huge fan base, DC Comics made its own admirable attempt to garner that same audience. Editor Jack Miller launched the first issue of Teen Beat, a 12cent magazine with various features and speculative gossip focusing on the likes of the Beatles, Jefferson Airplane and the Mamas and the Papas, among others. The issue was presented "In Groovy Color" but with the exception of the cover, and interior illustrations, it was actually the backgrounds to black and white photos that were presented as such.

Commenting throughout many of the features was "Teeny" an illustrated teenage girl who provided her innermost thoughts and predictions regarding her favorite bands. In this first issue, the mod redhead lamented over growing rumors of the Monkees breaking up, although they would not do so until some time after the issue came out. She also predicted monster success for several upcoming bands, though the only one of her tips to come good were the Bee Gees.

Unfortunately, "Teeny" could not foresee that Teen Beat would last only one more issue - which was renamed Teen Beam - before being cancelled.
