The Technodrome was created specificaly for the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series. The war machine resembles a miniature Death Star and serves as a base of operations for show's main antagonists Krang, Shredder, Bebop, Rocksteady and their army of robotic Foot Soldiers and Krang's Rock Soldiers.
The heavily armed vehicle is capable of travel underwater, on land, underground, through space and is capable of teleporting between dimensions via opening a portal. Though for much of the show it was rendered immobile with villains constantly seeking ways to power it and mobilise it.
Beyond the first animated series the Techodrome has appeared in various other media such as the Archie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures comics, various video games and merchendise and was a main feature of the 25th anniversary DTV movie Turtles Forever.
TMNT 1987 Animated Series
Much of the Techodrome's origins were detailed in the seventh season episode "Get Shredder". It was designed and built in Dimension-X by Drakus and his partner Krang until Krang betrayed Drakus and stole and destroyed Drakus's homeworld.
When the series begins the Techodrome is on Earth and mobile underneath the streets of New York. Presumebly the Technodrome was transported to Earth along with Krang when he was banished by his fellow warlords losing his body in the process. Krang strikes a partnership with a human villain The Shredder who is now conducting his criminal operations from the Technodrome with it's superior technology in exchange for Shredder building him a new robotic body.
The final episode of the first season "Shredder and Splintered" had the turtles overt an invasion of Krang's forces by reversing the portal and Technodrome sucked itself into Dimension-X. It remained there for the second season until the finale aptly named "Return of the Technodrome" where it returned to Earth. Once again going underground this time to cause earthquakes but the turtles managed to infiltrate the base and reverse the machine causing the earthquakes sending a depowered Technodrome to Earth's core.
The third season had the Techodrome damaged and low and power stuck at the Earth's core. Krang used anti-matter cannons to bore holes to the surface with neumatic modules to drill to the surface, most episodes of the season revolved around the villains going to the surface to steal things to repair and power the Technodrome. The last three episodes loosely tied together began with showing the Technodrome so low on power electricity was generated by Bebop and Rocksteady riding a bike.
