    The Mad Master Of Time!

Lee and Lieber get all weary eyed this month as Ant-Man faces his biggest foe yet—old age. Despite being a villain with some promising emotional motive, The Mad Master of Time, or, professor Elias Weems, is just too much of a genius to be believed. Perhaps if the story allowed for Weems' origin to be set years prior to current events, then maybe this fantastical ageing device could be fathomable, but it seems like he comes up with it during the space of an afternoon. Wow. Not only this, but there's the fact that as a villain, he's tame. He ages people then puts them back to their normal state until the end where he drops his gun and the civilians do it themselves. What's even more bizarre is that nobody takes advantage of the reverse properties of the weapon to take a few years off their "normal" age. And of course, by the end of the issue the device is supposedly still operational. A cure for ageing, finally! And all in the space of an afternoon! Bah, humbug. It's an interesting, somewhat fun read in terms of silly sci-fi, but frustrating all the same.

Normally villains of the time were one dimensional characters with unclear or entirely absent motivation rules, but Ellias' actions are understandable even while remaining unjustifiable. It is oh so very sixties marv...
