Symbiote

Symbiote is a comic book concept that first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #8

A Symbiote is part of an alien species that needs to bond to a host organism to survive, hence the name describing the symbiotic relationship.

Back story

Symbiotes are alien organisms that bond to a living host in order to survive. When they bond to a host, they generally do so by forming a living costume or skin around the individual that can be retracted through the subject's skin. The symbiote and host share an empathic bond with each other, allowing the symbiote to react to the host's thoughts and emotions. Symbiotes feed off of the adrenal gland of their host, and because of this crave behaviors that will cause an adrenaline rush in the host creature. As a result of this the host will often partake in risky and violent behavior, and have a high mortality rate. A symbiote will generally have several hosts over their lifetime.

It has recently been revealed that several years ago the now-deceased Emperor D'Ken of the Shi'ar Empire and his forces discovered a member of a unique strand of the Symbiote species. Unlike its cousins this gray monstrosity consumed brains for nourishment rather than adrenaline and prefers taking control of multiple hosts simultaneously so it can consume more brains faster.

Most Notable Symbiotes

  • Venom - The Venom symbiote craved to bond with one host creature permanently rather than killing its host. Because of its views Venom was branded as a heretic by the rest of his species and was imprisoned. Spider-Man originally encountered the Venom symbiote during the Secret Wars, but removed it with the help of Mr. Fantastic when he learned that it was controlling his actions and attempting to bond with him permanently. Eddie Brock was the second and most memorable to wear the Venom symbiote. Brock had a strong hatred of Spider-Man, and as Venom became one of Spider-Man's greatest enemies. Currently Mac Gargan, the former Scorpion has bonded with the symbiote and taken up the Venom mantle.
  • Carnage - Carnage is the offspring of Venom. Carnage bonded with the insane Cletus Cassady, and is a dangerous enemy to both Spider-Man and Venom. Carnage can use his symbiote on his body to make a weapon, he can make his symbiote rock hard and when he flings some symbiote off, the symbiote can simply fall away in a few minutes.
  • Scream - Is the daughter of Venom and was one of the Life Foundation Symbiotes. Her hosts name is Donna Diego. She is also the one who killed her siblings hosts with a sonic knife. Donna devoted herself to kill all of the other symbiotes cause she thought that they were evil like herself. Venom seemed to be the main target, since she fought him on several occasions. Until recently she regrets her villanous ways and began to help the other symbiotes hosts by teaching them how to deal with there symbiotic half.
  • Agony - Child of Venom
  • Lasher - Child of Venom
  • Phage - Child of Venom
  • Riot - Child of Venom
  • Toxin - The Toxin symbiote was the offspring of Carnage. Carnage tried to kill Toxin soon after spawning him out of fear of Toxin growing more powerful than both Venom and Carnage combined. Toxin bonded with police officer Patrick Mulligan, who is currently struggling to remain a force of good with his new found abilities. Now, he learns how to controll his powers and regard the symbiote as innocent. Sometimes the symbiote give him ideas that help him out. Now, he is staying together with Gina and the symbiote.
  • Hybrid - Is the combined form of Agony, Phage, Lasher, and Riot. They merged with Scott Washington and became Hybrid.
  • Dreadface - An alien symbiote of the same race as the Venom symbiote that appeared in two issues of the Fantastic Four volume one. It was imprisoned upon the worship of Devos the Devastator and accidentally set free by the Fantastic Four when they crash-landed the ship on a remote island. While Reed and Sue take off in a jet to find help, Ben and Johnny are attacked by Dreadface. He is killed when Ben sets off an explosion, destroying the symbiote. Of interest is the fact that while Dreadface showed a weakness to Johny's flames, when he had taken Johny as a host he gained the Torch's immunity to his own fire. This appeared to occur due to Dreadface pulling the symbiote back from the parts of Torch's body that were aflame, while retaining control over his mind. Dreadface's appearance is very similar to that of Venom's incarnation in the year 2099, though lacking the spider symbol and the monstrous tongue. It is Believed deceased but appeared in cameo in Fantastic Four Foes #1.
  • Anti-Venom - Even though Eddie Brock shed the symbiote Venom suit, fragmented cells of the alien still reside in his blood stream. Mr. Negative's energy bonds these particles to Eddie's white blood cells, creating an "Anti-Venom" suit. This new "symbiote" is toxic to the original Venom parasite. This new symbiote has no weakness to fire or sound like the other symbiotes.
  • Angelo Fortunato - The son of Don Fortunato, he was the second person to become Venom, but only for a short time.
  • Captain America's Symbiote - Captain America with the Symbiote suit in the World of Symbiote
  • Wolverine's Symbiote - Wolverine with the Symbiote Suit in the Weapon X
  • Deadpool's Symbiote - Deadpool with the Symbiote Suit in the Weapon X
  • George - One of the last symbiotes left from the invasion of the symbiotes, eventually eaten By Xenophage.
  • ZZZXX - Is a unique member of Symbiote species who feeds on brains instead of adrenaline like his cousins. He was captured by Emperor D'Ken several years earlier but before D'Ken had a chance to study ZZZXX he was killed by Vulcan. ZZZXX is considered to be one of the five most dangerous criminals the Shi'ar Empire ever captured. He was recently given a male Shi'ar host to feed on while he serves Vulcan as a member of the new Shi'ar Imperial Guard, though after a brief encounter with Lilandra Neramani he has become obssessed with making her his host.
  • Variant - New kind of symbiote, it feeds from host's bliss. It grants ability to fly, to generate electricity, super strength and durability and it does not fear fire. It was bonded with Maximillian Trent, but after he died it moved on to the man's daughter Mavis Trent. It called itself Variant, and told her, that it's more evolved version of symbiotes.
  •  Carnage Surfer
  • Bizarnage

Weaknesses

Even though each symbiote generation gets a little stronger their main weaknesses are sound and heat. Though some are more immune to the effects of said weaknesses, intense amounts will usually take a toll
