X-ING
With Gus and Jepperd not being in the last issue, this issue can be the jump in point if you wanted to save the $3 and not read the last issue. This issues sums up the basics of the last issue; the three girls left camp and now Gus and Jepperd need to find them.
The first arc, Out of the Woods, is the Gus story. Gus being the main character and he messiah character of this post-apocalyptic story. The 2nd arc deals a lot with Jepperd and while Gus is physically "In Captivity", Jepperd is tied down by his emotions. The third arc is the conflict of Human verses nature in Animal Armies and now with the forth arc, Endangered Species, it looks like Jeff Lemire is exploring the women characters and how they are effected when the world went into chaos.
Although Sweet Tooth is paced on a slower rate compared to Jeff Lemire's Superboy, I honestly believe Sweet Tooth is the better story because Jeff fleshes each character out in Sweet Tooth. We emotionally get attached to the characters, we want to know why their world is in ruin. With the religious tones, I wonder if Lemire is making a statement on Human evolution and is mankind now the Endangered Species? Like how Y: The Last Man removed men out of the picture, could Jeff Lemire now be weeding out the Women? Gus was born in a lab after all.
I can't want for the next issue, darn you Jeff and your cliff-hanger endings!!!!!
Till next month.
Cheers
