No Gus No Fuss.
I can't believe the second arc is over and there was no Gus in the last issue (minus the preview). Jeff Lemire really has the whole story planed out. Two arcs finished, both tightly written and feature a preview to the next arc. You tease you Mr. Lemire sir.
I have to say that this was my favorite comic of the week of July 8, 2010. Close second came Grant Morrison's Batman and Robin #13. Grant's issue was a nice set up issue, but this one wrapped up an arc I loved 6 issue long. This is the Jeff Lemire I have become a fan of. This comic has the storytelling, the silent panel work the action, the drama, life and death, love and hate, everything that makes a good read a good read.
What made me enjoy this comic so much its Pain/Love was much like the Pain/Love in Lost Dogs (Jeff Lemire's self-published book). Mr. Lemire makes suffering beautiful. Not beautiful like in flowers, but he gives it real life with its art. You feel for these characters as if they were real people.
The first arc Out of the Deep Woods really was to set up the world and Gus. In Captivity is the arc in which we see Jepperd in new light. This arc is as much of the physical "Captivity" in which Gus is in and the Mental and emotional "captivity" Tommy Jepperd is in. I loved this juxtaposition.
If you are not reading Sweet Tooth get on it! it is one of the best series out there. The first Trade is out, give it a try and look for these back issues, the series just keeps getting better and better! Heck next arc starts Animal Army and by the sound of that its going to be good, so if your new to Sweet Tooth jump on there.
The "trailer" brings a lot of new questions.
I recommend this series to anyone. It is not a hard series to understand and that is what makes it great. What makes us Human? Is it the fact we can think or is it the fact that we love? Can these Hybrids be Human? With all the violence in the world are we the Animals?
5/5 Stars
Cheers!
