    Out of the Swamp

For anyone who thought the Swamp Thing's adventures were going to be restricted to the Louisiana bayou, that illusion was shattered with Swamp Thing #2. Captured by the Un-Men and transported to the Balkans, Swamp Thing encounters his arch nemesis, Dr. Arcane for the first time.

This comic is a bit better than the average for the time, mostly due to Wrightson's artwork, which is like a twisted, expressionist version of Jack Kirby. The story sets up several rivalries for the Swamp Thing, including Dr. Arcane, the Un-Men, Lt. Cable, The Conclave, and The Patchwork Man - only time will tell if the title will sustain the vitality with which it began.
