Surge used to be one of my favorites. I don't blame her new attitude a bit because yeah everyone around her IS dying but it's starting to turn me off a bit. What do you think of the New Surge?

I agree with the Kumori, this new Surge is a waste of space. The mount she became Leader was the moment her appeal started to die.

I think Emma was wrong when she made her a leader of New X-Men. It's not so hard to figure out that Emma did it to punish Hellion. So she basically told Surge "that's the only way you can become a leader". Of course, Surge wasn't ready - she wasn't even the leader of New Mutants squad. Four members of New X-Men are former Hellions (Hellion, Rockslide, Mercury, Dust), who still remember the old rivalry with New Mutants. Only Elixir was from her old squad, and we all remember how "popular" he was after the mess with Wallflower and Wolfsbane. And, of course, X-23, who was introduced with a warning "she has my claws and she can kill all of you". A better person can get confused if you tell him to lead the team like New X-Men. Surge saw that she can't control the situation. Icarus betrayed them; Mercury was kidnapped and Hellion with X-23 went after her, not bothered to tell the so-called "leader" ; the squad got sucked into Limbo. If I was Surge, I'd start asking myself "If I was a better leader, could I prevent all these horrible things"?
She can't change anything, so she keeps lashing on the others. Just another Sally Floid.
