The Brave and the Bold.
It's amazing how one man's death can still have long-lasting effects on the superhero community. Since Batman was unfortunately tagged with the Omega Sanction, the people who knew him the most have all had their ways of coping with their collective loss. Tim Drake's been finding clues that Bruce may have dropped off in The Return of Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson stepped up to become the new Dark Knight, and here, in this issue of Superman/Batman #76, Clark Kent has a way of coping with that loss. But it's not exactly the most appropriate.
The Good
Judd Winick does a great job of not only clearing the dust off from the aftermath of Final Crisis, but correlating the story to Dick's eulogy and events that occured in Batman #687. In this issue, he tells a gripping story of how Clark manages to cope with the loss of Bruce Wayne, which gradually starts as passive to full-blown outrage at seeing Dick become the new Batman. What made this issue an even bigger attraction is to see the skills of Marco Rudy, for his pencilling skills were a great compliment to this issue, and one of the reasons The Shield, prior to its cancellation had some gorgeous interior art. Peter Pantazis does a good job of complimenting Rudy's work with the coloring, which also goes great with the inking of Oclair Albert and Julio Ferreira. Overall, this issue starts off with a somber feel, but it then changes into a heart-warming story that forges this new version of the World's Finest team.
The Bad
A small problem this issue presents, is Pantazis' little blunder of coloring Robin with the wrong color scheme, namely having green gauntlets and a green domino mask. Anything other than that, not much is wrong with this issue.
The Verdict
For a one-shot issue, this issue does a great job of firing on all cylinders after the book has reached its 75th issue. If Superman/Batman decides to do a storyline any time soon, they should rely on this team of writers and artists, because they have made this issue THAT good to read. Pick it up if you want a great one-shot, and a little clarification on what happened in Final Crisis, without spending more than $3. 4.5/5 GREAT BUY
