I'm rewatching all the episodes and Jesus Christ, Superman has at least one douche bag moment in every single episode he appears him, am I the only person who thinks this? I'm currently re-watching "Clash" and his douchebaggery towards Captain Marvel in that episode is staggering.
Superman
Character » Superman appears in 18941 issues.
Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
Why is Superman such a dick in the JLU series?
Well, the first season of Unlimited is the one where Cadmus is working behind the scenes to counter the threat the League could pose. So some of them look a little loose at times, happened to WW as well when she got pissed about a pair of theives ruining her day off.
Don't really agree. I admit that Superman isn't the best written character and he came off particularly arrogant and douchey in 'Clash', but there was a build up to his paranoia in the Cadmus story arc which works. Overall, I don't think he acted like a douche all that much. He wasn't shown to be the brightest sometimes, and he was definitely underpowered but he had some seriously badass moments, particularly when up against Darkseid in both the JL and the JLU.
@ndixit: particularly when up against Darkseid in both the JL and the JLU.
You mean when his big moment consisted of him attacking Darkseid with everything he has, does nothing to him and proceeds to get taken out with his other nemesis actually saving the day. On the other hand, Batman gets praised for being the only person to dodge the Omega Beams.
Superman looked horrible in every encounter with Darkseid.
The only time he was a d*ck was when he was dealing with Cadmus, he had a lot on his shoulders (especially with the "I could become Justice Lord Superman" thing) and I think he was feeling the pressure. Also, for Clash, I think it was a mixture of his distrust of Lex and jealousy of Captain Marvel, plus, they (Lex and Waller) made him look bad, Batman even said that they "set him up."
I never noticed tbh.
I've noticed that in any medium, no matter what, there's always someone saying Superman is a dick.
At this point, if you're Superman, by default, you're a dick. Are we really going to bring this up every time? It's like Batman being broody or Flash being fast. Superman = dick. There's no way around it, from Silver Age, to JLU, to WAR, the man can't win.
He wasnt a Richard in Clash, Lex just won the debate.
You'll have to post instances of him being a douche.
@jphu8414: superman only weighs like 235 pounds and clearly wasn't trying to fight back. He was probably surprised baam had the guts to even try something like that.
Only couple episodes but overall Superman is still great. Fav episodes when Supes hangout with Martian Manhunter during christmas :)
To tell the truth, in “Clash” he was written badly to the point of being OOC, but I wouldn’t say that in JLU-verse he was a dick in every episode. On the other hand, JL-Superman had a fair share of other shortcoming, so, as Supes’ fan, I don’t particularly like Timm’s JL. There were some episodes when I felt that he was deserving his own moniker, true, but they’re far and few between and exceptions that prove the rule.

I also included this episode into “Superman was truly super”-list. Add to this “Hereafter” plus some moments and scenes from other episodes/seasons – and that’s it; overall I find Supes’ portrayal in JLU pretty to be bland and mediocre.

The only two times that I can remember Sups being a jerk was in the episode you mentioned (ironic I just watched it today), but he was set up to look like the bad guy in that episode. The other time was in the episode "Twilight" where he reacted harshly towards Batman for removing him from his battle against Darkseid, even though he would have died if Batman didn't save him.
@humanrocket: and there in lies Timm's problem. They write a great Superman...until he is near Batman.
I never noticed tbh.
