TELL ME CUZ I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!!!
Superman
Character » Superman appears in 18939 issues.
Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
Why is a nerf so bad?
If your talking about a nerf in power then it's quite simple. He is superman he needs to have SUPER powers. He's not maybe man or slightly man. Nay. He is the superman, capable of extreamally awesome feats that defy logic and physics. Why? Because he is the superman. Simple.

Really is that all? By your logic they should bring back silver/golden age Superman. Not to mention he can still have amazing feats without being able to bench press earth five times. Also Superman is more than his powers and you know Clark Kent.
Superman has become to powerful for his own good. Now hes so powerful that It's just selfish, stupid for him to protect one city and even be Clark Kent if he really wants to do good.
Thor is breaking planets like jawbreakers and people still complain about Superman being overpowered. Some things never change lol
Because Superman is superman. He was designed to be the most OP mainstream superhero, if he doesn't fit the bill of the JLA's "big gun" then he is kinda pointless.
Superman doesn't need nerfed(if the whole DCU got nerfed then it's ok),he is supposed to be the ultimate hero, the one that comes in and does what all the others can't.
If you want to follow a "nerfed" super person,go watch Young Justice, cause superboy is very much nerfed there( I would tweak it by giving him the solar battery weakness, and instead of hearing and infra red, give him ALL the original Kon's TTK manipulation abilities, lobdells TTK senses, and say cause he can't absorb solar power as fast as Kal or Kara he can't access flight, heat vision, all the super senses, and increased strength, speed, and durability.have Suoerboy focus on ways to do what they can do(atleast outcome) using his TTK to interact with the world around him.so instead of flight he would leap, tall buildings and over time manipulate the air around him to move him through the air, like Storm does, manipulate the particles in front of his eyes for heat vision, see the EM field all around him, sound waves.he could be the DC character to have the most fun with his powers.
Superman's power is deep rotted into his very concept. Him being all powerfull is one of his main characteristics. And in a world full of Super-heroes for him to be worthy of the name "Superman" he has to stand out from them.
Plus there are many stories saying how dangerous he is etc etc because of his powers the plot starts developing holes if Supes isn't the most powerful. And again that is part of his concept for decades since his inception.
Because nobody wants to read about Slightly-Above-Average-Man.
Good one.
As it's been said before, Superman's power levels are a big part of the character's status as the World's Greatest Hero and Protector. He can't exactly fulfil that role if he's not one of the most powerful beings on the planet. Yes Superman should not be overpowered to the point of Silver Age nonsensical power levels but to be incredibly nerfed in the realm of comic books just because a few people want him to be? I don't really accept that. I liked the Bruce Timmverse Superman and I understand if future Superman video games need to nerf his power levels but in the comics, we should be able to have some level of fantasy escapism where an alien from outer space can move planets and fly at light speeds. There's nothing wrong with a well managed power level for Superman, you just need to vary what he faces each month.
Nothing.
In fact about 90% of comic characters should nerfed. Most comic writers have such a lack of imagination they think adding more power to a character makes them better when it doesn't attttt alllll.
@jonny_anonymous: For most of us posting here, power levels isn't what defines Superman most of all. However, decreasing and nerfing a powerhouse adds even less value than increasing his power levels. For instance, how would you feel if Daredevil got owned by a random knock off wearing his old costume or stalemated by fodder Wakandan guards? :P

Well if it was used in an interesting story I'd be fine with it but Waid seems to be incapable of that.
It's bad specially when used in the same character over and over again.
Look at the JL. Superman is constantly being weakeaned so his other teammates can shine, and that's total crap.
They didn't need to place a shadow over Superman's head, they could simply make him an "extreme cases only" member instead of a full time member.
Not only that when reading Batman-Superman most of the times they nerf Superman but rarely do so with Batman.
So nerf has been a nightmare for quite sometime now, and its the greatest example of how bad writing has become in comics, specially over the last 5 years.

Yeah I agree. He nerfed all the time in other comics but suddenly hes very strong in his own comics. It's just dumb.
Like I said earlier, Superman has become to powerful for his own good. Now hes so powerful that It's just selfish, stupid for him to protect one city and even be Clark Kent if he really wants to do good. Apparently he can't even sleep and counts sutff wtf?
@heavenlydarkdragon: True but your ideal depiction of Superman's power level really isn't much better, I assure you. If you were a main Superman writer and had the chance to execute your vision for Superman's power level to skyrocket, his intelligence to go through the roof and for mental powers to emerge, I guarantee you'd have as much of a problem as the Silver Age Superman writers did every month.
People want him to be as powerful as his comic version. But that is just ridiculous. I agree him being powerful is part of his character. But he can be nerfed and still be awesome. As long as he is one of the most powerful people relevant to everyone else, it should be fine. It wouldn't matter to me if he could only lift 100 tons. If that is the highest shazam can lift too in that specific universe then I'd be fine. It should all be relative.
For example in the JL TV show. Compared to his comic version yes he was nerfed (like everyone in that show besides batman), but he was still the most powerful JL member and one of the most powerful on earth. So it didn't even feel like a Nerf to me

First of all, Superman (for me) should be first among equals (probably except Flash). Even if there are people which are on his level of power, Superman still is a little bit stronger, faster, and durable.
About DCAU – looking at both heroes and villains there, I don’t really feel anything Super about them; they’re pretty much street-levelers. For Superman, I like his current New-52 level of power – incredibly strong, with nearly incalculable speed, not completely useless while under Kryptonite (unless, of course, he’s dealing with Batman :P); because, c’mere, he’s Superman, that’s even in his name.

Even though you said except Batman I'm still gonna say it. Superman N52 couldn't handle a gum of kryptonite.
A GUMMMMMMM OF KRYPTONITE!

It's just going to be handwaved.
That is the same Superman who had Kryptonite shoved in his brain and kept on fighting.
Kryptonite is a mere plot device.

That’s just another occasion of Kryptonite suddenly becoming much more potent when wielded by Batman :P (that’s why I mentioned him in previous post). In Superman’ own comics and even in Forever Evil he’s much more resilient against Kryptonite poisoning.
They aren't. Some of the stuff these powerhouses do is ridiculous and strains belief in my opinion. Just have him be super, he doesn't need to bust planets.
Agree with @jonny_anonymous.
