With the exception of heat vision (and the upcoming solar flare) why doesn't superman use other solar based abilities? Clark's ability to fire heat blasts from his eyes is from the absorption of solar energy. If that's the case, why couldn't he fire solar blasts from his hands or create solar bombs?

People already think Superman is OP, if he was (and he is) able to use the entire EM spectrum (has seen in previous comics of the N52), then they would say things like "Why the hell can't he see through led if he has gamma vision" or "Why only through his eyes and not his hands or the whole body", "Why vulnerable to kryptonite if he can control EM energy. He could simply block that specific frequency".

Truth be told, DC writers don't even bother to explain how Superman powers work. The yellow sunlight thing, is outdated, we all know that yellow sunlight alone can't explain those power levels, unless kryptonians have physiology that defies the laws of physics and can amplify normal sunlight billions of times. They could give an explanation like Marvel did for Cyclops and say that kryptonians physiology uses the yellow sunlight has a catalyst that grants kryptonians access to either the entire EM spectrum or some form of quantum energy, that energy would enhance both physical and mental normal functions to super-human levels, and their powers were, for lack of a better explanation, a mixture of his body immense energy manipulated by psionic power.

But this is just my opinion. Not that DC reads this stuff and learns something.

Remember the Super-Sun. Well, basicaly after Superman return from his tens of thousands of years traveling through the cosmos, passing and returning from the Source Wall, he made the sun (the entire sun) his fortress. Even the leader of the Justice League Alpha, Kal Kent, said that some of his powers came from exposure to the super-sun.

Because he is about control and safety.
