Who do you think is the best?
Superman
Character » Superman appears in 18940 issues.
Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
Who is the best superman writer?
I loved Joe Kelly's run on Action comics' Emperor Joker, the world Superman got pulled into and what happened to Steel were just awesome to me.
Grant Morrison,he's the best Batman writer, best Superman writer and within 2 years or so will be the best Wonder Woman writer.
I'd like to add that Jeph Loeb did a fantastic job with All Seasons, and this is coming from a guy who doesn't even care for his Batman work despite the praise it has gotten.

Wait you don't Like Jeph leobs Batman? i think it was good though :), well until he went insane, created Red Hulk, Destroyed The Marvel Animation studio and the Ultimate Universe :P
It was good enough, but like Snyders work certain fans pretend as if Loeb reinvented the wheel.
I don't really know.
Many writers have done justice to the man of steel.
- Elliot S Maggin created some of the most memorable bronze age stories and themes like "must there be a Superman".
- Grant Morrison gave a new breath to the character in his stories and he really understand him.
- Mark Waid is both a fan and a great storyteller, he gave us the best origin of Superman to date. And i am sad to know that we won't have the chance to read something Superman related that it isn't Birthright from him.
- Joe Kelly has left his mark on the character and his run is a fan favorite.
- John Byrne personally i am not a fan of what he did to the character but he is considered a great superman storyteller.

Damn you Leob!
Waid is probably my favorite
Probably Grant Morrison because of All-Star. Although Snyder could be doing something great in Superman Unchained
The writers whose takes I've enjoyed the most have been Byrne, Johns and Morrison, all for different reasons. Byrne had some pretty good ideas about explaining some unanswered stuff from Superman's mythos and I liked the focus on Superman's supporting cast, something other writers kept doing for some time after he left. Johns introduced one of the coolest settings Superman ever had. Some people may not have liked the Donnerverse/Silver Age mash-up but I thought it was fun. Great stories too. Finally, aside from writing All Star Superman, Morrison gave Superman those "bigger than life" threats I've always felt Supes should face, aside from some pretty cool concepts like having Red K give hallucinations instead of messing with Kryptonian DNA. Also, Dr. Xa-Du is awesome, we need to see more from the guy who wants to unleash a superzombie apocalypse on Earth.

All Seasons was pretty good but his Superman run was terrible. Parasite shapeshifting into Lois Lane and having implied sex with Lex Luthor? That did... so not happen.
@smashbrawler: Damn you,I tried so hard to forget Our Worlds at War era, seriously it completely escaped my mind that Loeb wrote Superman during that terrible period.
For me without a doubt mark waids birthright is my favorite superman story to date. I liked grant morrisons all star but i dont think its as great as everyone says it is then i liked john byrnes run too
Mark Waid solely because of Birthright.
Morrison with the majority of his New 52 Action Comics run and All-Star Superman.
Brian Azzarello with For Tomorrow.
Alan Moore for Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow and For the Man who has Everything,
Joe Kelly for What's so Funny about Truth, Justice and the American Way.
This is just simplifications or my favourite works from these writers revolving Superman.
The only writers who've actually made me enjoy the character are:
- Geoff Johns
- Greg Pak
- Scott Snyder
Psssst. Morrison.
